Photophobia / strong light sensitivity
 

Hello people!

My name is Tom and i'm 24 years old student. My grettings to all. I would like to ask you for some info and opinion.

I suffer for about 8 months now from unexplained photophobia and related eye pain. The doctors (ophtalmologysts) didnt find anything problematic. My CT scan shows cavum vergae and cisti cavum septum pellicidum. But nevrologist claimed that these condition are usually harmless and not eye related.

My question touches two points:
- does anyone have a comment on this photophobic condition?
- when i press my temples, the photophobic reaction diminishes; can anyone explain what this means? i mean is there any eye related nerve at the temple side or some blood vessel that acount for mentioned effect ?

Hi Tom,
When I was young I was sick a lot, measles, mumps, scarlet fever... etc. And each time I was sick my eyes hurt in the light.

Okay, so since then I've discovered that if my eyes hurt in the light and I take vitamin A, I should do that now, actually, it stops hurting. And, I don't squint in the sun as much, either.

I get the cheap vitamin A since it works fine.

You might try that.

My name is Erin, I have a little girl who has a rare chromosome syndrome called Pallister Killians. She is Severely physically and intellectually handicapped. She also has cortical vision impairment and is incredibly photophobic.

The reason I'm on this sight is to ask for advice. The other day Ava responded amazingly to a baby einstein dvd.....(very little gets her attention) she absolutely loved it.... but only when the background was black or coloured.... when the screen flicked to white it really upset her... clearly causing pain.
Do any of you know of a place where I could get DVD's that are specifically designed for light sensitive people or babies?
Also, has anything helped your situation? Ava can't communicate to help me help her. So I'd love to hear from any of you that have ideas.
We have babybanz for her which really help.

How old is your daughter? I am dealing with photophobia and the only thing (so far) that has helped are tinted lenses. Would it be possible to get a pair of children's glasses for her? That way, you don't have to control the environment she's in as much....her glasses will filter out the worst of it.

If you see an optometrist who knows how to handle light sensitivity (believe me, not all of them do...though you probably know that already) ask them about tinted lenses, rose color is what works for me as I have a problem with blue/green spectrum light. I hope this can help.
