Hi Razzle :Wave-Hello:

I have been taking 50mg of Trazodone every night at bedtime as a sleep aid for several years (I think it's been over 6 years since I started taking it).

It has been fantastic for me. It helps me sleep without making me groggy in the morning and without any side effects. When my husband was going through chemo there were many many times when he would wake me up in the middle of the night and I was able to wake up to help him without feeling drugged and groggy and stupid, and I was able to wake up when he needed me.

So, for me, it is a perfect sleep aid, because it is just right in the way that it helps me fall asleep, stay asleep, and get better sleep -- but at the same time I do not have any morning groggyness or any morning hang-over type feeling that some other sleep aids can cause and I am also able to wake up in the middle of the night when needed without feeling drugged and stupid and useless.

I have been on the same exact dose for years, and it has remained effective without any issues. It works the same today as it did 6+ years ago when I first started taking it.

Technically, Trazodone is an antidepressant, but doctors rarely prescribe it for depression. I think that 90% of Trazodone prescriptions are for it to be used as a sleep aid because it is effective. I believe that most doctors now consider it to be a "sleep medication" instead of an antidepressant even though it is still officially in the antidepressants catagory.

Overall, I have been very very happy with Trazodone. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask :)

I hope that helps,
Liz

Hi Razzle51 ~

I, too, take Trazadone for sleep. I take 100mgs. about an hour before I go to bed. I've been on it for going on ten years now.

I agree with everything that Liz said ~ it helps me get to sleep and stay asleep ~ without that groggy feeling in the morning.

There are still a few occasions when I can't get to sleep because of pain ~ my Pain Doc perscribes Ambien for those times ~ but I rarely take it. Usually the Trazadone is all I need.

Love,
Sue

I take 50 mgs at bedtime to help with sleep.
I am having some issues with pain right now so most nights i have it
rough no matter what...
Before that it worked very well!
I have been taking it for 2 yrs.

I also take 100 mgs of trazadone for sleep. It works great. The only downside for my specfically is that I still wake up in the middle of the night in pain...but that is not the trazadone's fault.

well great Dr said they were using it for pain now too. But doesnt sound like it works for that. I took my first one last night and I was wide awake most of the night. How long does it take to start working. thanks

HI again Razzle
I have never had any relief from pain with the trazadone...
Also what doseage does he have you on to start out on?
I just checked out my bottle and it says 1-2 tablets at bedtime.
So i can take 2 if needed!
Thats 50 to 100 mgs.
If he has you on 50mgs just call and ask about taking 100 if it's not working..
When i take one ..It knocks me out until my hips start acting up..then its over for me,i begin my tossing and turning adventure.....
I know what i need..I need a better pain med...Not a better sleep med!
Because in the past this med worked well for me.
Good luck to you!
