did you go into control panel?

then sounds and audio
click on it and go thru all the tabs - there's one that says test hardware?
look thru all of those and see if they look right.

check your speaker plugs and wires and power for it

or the little speaker icon on the task bar ? {does yours show there}
double click that and make sure the mute isn't checked and all the check boxes look correct

If speaker/s are not internal, you might want to make sure that all of the cables, USBs or whatever is used to connect computer-to-speaker/s are totally connected. A loose contact between the computer and speaker/s can nuke the sound.

Thanks Gals~

My speakers are internal. I did all that you gals said and still no sound. I am going to call my repairman and see what he says. I'll probably have to bring it in. Thanks tho, I do appreciate your help. You all have been a big help on other things for me. I don't understand parts where I go into the working on sound very good, so it may be my ignorance on this.

You may have lost a sound driver or your sound card may be kaput.
Do you still show the speaker icon on your taskbar?
Your repairman should talk you thru the simplest tasks on the phone,
but you may have to take it to him to do a full Dx.

I took it to him and he had to down load it again. He said he didn't know why. Anyway I got home with it and guess what, I don't have sound. He didn't charge me but it is 20 miles one way to go to him. He went in and it made a ding sound & he said it was fixed.

I thought I had two e mails with sound, one says it does and it don't have for me. I'm begining to wonder if it is the email now. What do you think?

Pop in a music CD and try to play it.

Jomar 12-07-2006 12:42 PM

or a music sample on the windows media player-
hmm
your repair guy could have checked it a little better with some music and such.

When I work on my parents computer - i double check everything - because they are nervous about exploring how it works.

If you still have problems and have to take it again ask him to test a bit more for you. and verify all sounds are working.

could something be loose inside from the drive - did it get bumped around?
Be cautious as bumps or drops might cause hard drive to malfunction
i don't remember if XP auto parks the hard drive. { a protection thing for hard drive bumps etc}

Check that the "Mute All" button isn't checked in the Master Volume Control.
The Volume Control is down the bottom of my screen in the Tool Bar to the Right, near where the time is. It's a round symbol that looks like a speaker or megaphone I suppose. (hard to tell with my eyes LOL). Just click on that and open it and it'll bring up the Control panel. Check that none of the boxes are checked for Mute.
