Work and Migraines

How does your work deal with migraines.
I am losing time off and feel guilty for missing work but what can I do? Anyone have a suggestion.

I work in a "cube" farm environment with flourescents overhead. I simply cannot tolerate the lighting. We keep the light that is directly above me "off", this requires that people sitting all around me can tolerate having the lights "off" (some prefer bright lights, other dim). My company has been great to work with me on this.

I have the option of working from home when I'm too sick to come in but still capable of working.

I keep an icepack in the freezer at work and when necessary - I wrap my head in an ice pack.

I keep Imitrex with me at all times (the only thing that will touch my migraines).

My company has been exceptional in trying to assist me with my migraines and it is widely known that it is a major health obstacle for me.

Before I became self-employed, my employer was not very tolerant of my lost time due to migraines. I was a para-legal and they kept me out of court at least 1 day a week. I had to do a lot of night work to make up my time because court cases just don't wait.

You should really talk to you doc about meds that are preventative, and not treating the migraine once you get them. Also, if you haven't already, you might consider allergy testing to see if there are food triggers for your migraines. There are certain foods that do trigger migraines in some people.

I posted about a book called Heal your Headache that has some good information in it that you may want to find and read. It's a great book for chronic headache/migraine sufferers.

My work has been very nice and they understand. I have missed alot of work lately due to my headaches. I guess they reall cant do anything when i have a doctors note. But i hear you about feeling GULITY! I just got back from our vacation in Mexico then i was only at work for two days and now I am off again.
I feel like I am at my wits end. I have tried everything and still cant find anything to help me~ Take care.
