School's & social workers?
 

Does anyone else feel a school should have the right to ask personal ?'s about your past pregnancy & family life just because they are providing special education to your children?

I think the school knows all they need to know about my son. He was born premature , had a PVL & now has CP. What good does it do to pry into my pregnacy while I was carrying Dustin & Kadee? What are they trying to find out whether I'm a unfit mother or something? I just do not get it.

I finally told them that I did not feel it was right ,that me ask me such personally ?'s just because the school was providing my son special education.

Does anyone else feel the school system's cross the line when they pry into your families personal life's ?

They don't need to know anything about your pregnancy with them, what will knowing any of that help with Dustin's education? :confused: it won't, you know it and they know it.

At the begining of this school year Riley seizures were really bad, they wanted me to sign permission to talk to her neuro and have access to her medical records- I don't think so! :eek: How is that going to help anything? We have a school nurse and a local epilepsy foundation chapter that will provide all the info they need, anything else that is relavant to her education and well being in school we will get copies of and send in. I felt very uncomfortable, not b/c we have anything to hide but that felt like an invasion of Rileys privacy!

They were not kind about it in the begining but with the support of the school nurse (who also felt it wasn't an appropriate request) they backed off. About a month after that our school system was in the news and in hot water for "forcing" (how about bullying) parents of special ed kids to allow the school access to their medical records.

I'm a parent advocate and I believe this would be considered a invasion
of the rights of the parents. But what I would do is call the State Nursing
association of school nurses and ask them why this is something the school
needs. I would guess they would then be giving the school a call and letting
them know its not.

I would also be wanting to know where in the federal law it states they have
the right or need of this information. I know of no place it does either.
