biofeedback & etc.

I haven't posted much about myself lately. I just had nerve block
#25 so my hand will allow a little one finger typing.
I just got a call from my P.M. Dr. office & they found a place for me to get
biofeedback counseling for pain. I had no idea they were working on this.
It's a little pricey - anyone else tried it? Does it help with the emotional
aspect of things (I could use that!) How often do you go?

I think I was picking up clues from nurses at last nerve block, that scar tissue
& other various issues may be developing from having so many.
BTW, I've been through SCS trial, Lidocaine infusions, accupuncture, calmare,
75 and counting P.T. sessions, +many meds.
The pain is manageable with blocks but they've pretty much "called it" on any
further improvement on the contracture & movement of my hand.
It's also spreading to my left foot but I walk & "swim" & move it all I can.

On the emotional level I just put on the brave, happy face/voice when necessary & do all I can for family & friends, but I feel like I'm at a road
block & don't have words to describe it. Any thoughts?

What does biofeedback involve?

Hi AZ-Di. I'm sorry you're in that crappy "stuck" place.

Biofeedback seems like it would be a positive step in the right direction.

My understanding is that biofeedback is used in order to help gain measures of control over certain biological functions like breathing, heartbeat, muscle movement, even brainwave patterns.

I've never used machines to monitor that type of thing, but have found great success in pain reduction by focusing my awareness on sympathetic, parasympathetic, and even enteric activities. It feels like I'm a 3rd party and I'm monitoring my physical body and movements from outside of myself.

AZ-Di are you going to try biofeedback? Let us know how it goes if you do decide - it's one more arrow in the anti-pain quiver. Maybe it's the one that will shoot that RSD apple off of your head, or someone else's. :)

Di

I think I know what you mean when you say you feel you are at a road block and I'm sorry you are in that place right now. I hope it is just a plateau and thing start to improve.

I've never tried bio-feedback, so I'm afraid I can't share any useful information. But I hope it helps to know I understand and I'm pulling for you. Even though I don't post much, I do care. (It is just that my cripsy hand that makes posting a bit difficult.)

I've hit a plateau myself, despite physiotherapy. I do have a good amount of function, so I'm not complaining. But I know how difficult it can be when things just seem not to improve no matter how hard you work on it and I certainly am familiar with the brave, happy face and voice.

For me, I think keeping a positive attitude is important. Actually, my happy face is probably more for me than it is for those around me.

Hang in there, Di. I know it is hard but you are strong, you can do this.

Kim
