colonoscpy prep = intense muscle spasms

I have about 2 hours to go before my colonoscopy, and I will be happy to get this over. Still feeling kind of nauseated right now and have a headache. Prep was disgusting as usual and my stomach is still gurgling, but what was worse were the muscle spasms. About 8:00 last night I started to experience muscle cramps/spasms in my right foot. Then I started to have them in both legs. They continued to bother me all night and this morning both legs are really sore and my left leg is more stiff than usual. I assume I may have lost too much potassium

Hi Barb~~ Been down that road, so know how the prep works, but by the time you read this, you may have it all behind you. (oops, sorry for the pun) Hope the procedure goes well and that they find a clean, healthy colon.

Let us know how things went, OK??? :grouphug::hug:

Hi Barb,

Sorry you've got to go through this again.....it'll be over with soon and you can relax and rest. Let us know how the test turns out - I'm sure it'll be fine but we still wanna know!!! Take care!

Well, I survived:wink: Woke up a few times during the procedure and it hurt like "heck." I felt like Iwas awake the whole time. For some reason, they have trouble knocking me out. The doctor blamed this on on the prescriptions I am on, but I was not taking any of them 5 years ago. I ended up having 3 polylps and the doctor said that one looked pre cancerous to him so now I have to play the waiting game for 2 weeks until the pathology reports are back.

You had trouble staying "knocked out?" Maybe the anesthetist should use a bigger hammer? :D

Glad you survived. Hope the polyp isn't anything to be scared about. Peace and hugs to you!

hi barb,

i'm glad it's over.
i know how hard the prep is. for me it kind of creates some pseudo flare sx's, especially of my fibromyalgia.

it's just a big stress and insult to the body, IMHO.

i hope the biospsy turns out to be negative.
my fingers are crossed for you.

They did my colonoscopy WIDE AWAKE  in the mid-80's. About 1/2 way through, they let me have a valium/relaxant. (That was after a few days of bleeding, and when they discovered I had Ulcerative Colitis).

YES, it is painful.

Glad it's over with. Hope you don't need surgery, and the polyp is non-cancerous. :(

I did this last year. What an ordeal the prep is. Sorry you felt so bad going into and through the procedure!

I hope you biopsy is negative and you can wait a certain number of years. Maybe by then they will figure out how to make you more comfortable.

The last time I saw my gastroenterology surgeon, she flashed the pictures she took of my GI at me. I really did not need to know what that looked like!!

Isn't technology wonderful!

I'm due for a check 'scope this July having had a hemi colectomy last year. Like everyone else, the thing I'm not looking forward to most is the prep.

I hope the pathology results are benign Barb. We'll all be thinking of you.

I had one of those many years ago. I woke up in the middle and they told me NO MORE DRUGS. to just hang in there. it would be over soon. I was in excruiating pain, and quite angry! Afterwards, I reported the MD to the hosptial for cruelty. He tried to say I must have been a drug addict to have that kind of tolerance. I said drug addict or not, I should have been properly medicated! now, I am not a drug addict, but have a nasty tolerance and warned him so before hand.

the next time I had one done, I spoke to the MD ahead of time. Warned her about my tolerance, and made an agreement with her. No matter how much drugs I need to take, you give it to me! I dont care if it borders on the insane. I will not tolerate cruelty. She agreed. I did wake up once, but she put me right back out. Afterwards she told me I took 3 times the average dose and she gave me another half dose to knock me back down in the middle of it. She had never seen such a thing. She did keep me asleep though.

Barb, I hope you are feeling better, and got a great report. I am glad its all over. You have been through enough lately. take a break with your clean colon. go get it all dirty again.
