Amped up!
 

Well Jeff and I just got out a meeting with a financial advisor.
We have to change the way we are living.
We are in no way shape or form to be able to retire at the rate we are going.
Our goal retirement date is set at 2033.
We will both be eligible to retire at the age of 67.(though we will probably be working longer than that.)
That is 17 years away.
So we have time to make some corrections.
We are going to look at a budget which we have never done before.
It will be very interesting to see....
We both have retirement accounts but are not enough.
So we are getting a late start but at least we are talking about it!

I am all worked up over this....we make too much money to not have more in savings. It is a shame.

I used to catch this guy's radio show about budgeting/getting out of debt...he seems to have good logical ideas , and helps to keep listeners on track...

gives great advice about finances.
He would not like the fact that we both bought new cars. I have 3 years left to pay it off and jeff just bought his last year so 4more. That is $600 a month in car payments. He would say"sell them and buy used cars".
Fortunately we don't have any credit card debt. Our house will be paid off in 9 years(I think, just called the loan officer to see for sure). That will free up another $1000.

I think the fact that you are talking about budgeting now is the most important thing. Simple changes such as starting to eat and drink at home now can save you a ton of money in the long run…

I hope that you and Jeff are able to work out a good plan soon :)
