burning occipital pain

the trigger for this was a cardiac angiogram. I have a burning like fire in the back of my head in the occipital region. This gives me headaches and makes me feel faint. No other symptoms. It hurts to rest my head on anything
The other day i used an ice gel pack as it was really bad and it was warm within 2 minutes.

Am waiting for ct scan.

I've not experienced anything like this - Althought it does hurt to lay on my head sometimes in that area. Glad to hear you are getting a ct scan. How soon will that be?

Did the techs who did the cardiac angiogram say anything about this being a possible side affect? In April I went for a cerebral angiogram and had clot develope outside the femoral artery. The docs office aired on the side of caution and got me in asap. Thankfully, they were able to tell me it was a side affect that would dissolve over time and it has.

I hope you find out what's going on.

Hi thanks for your reply

I have had an MRi scan as well as my condition deteriorated as i keep fainting 6/9 days and ended up being admitted in hospital. They have found a intra axial haematoma. But not done much So just lleft me and i am now waiting to see a neurologist.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle..with an intra-axial hematoma it sounds like what we call a "chemical menigimus"..the blood products from the hematoma are severly irritating the meninges and other structures of the brain..I have seen this once or twice in my practice, and the docs are right..your body will reabsorb the blood slowly.

In the mean time there is no reason why you cannot be on pain meds..please call your PMD and ask for a pain killer to tide you over until you get to the neurologist.. ( and not an anti inflammatory..that will not help)

Good luck
Mary Kay

Hi

Have been in hospital again for 11 days. Not sure what it is but keep collapsing every other day. However think it could be TIA (minor stroke) as my speech has started to go funny. Am on amitryline and high dose of codeine now.

Hi

Have been to see the neurologist and i am having a eeg tomorrow which is pretty quick. Although i came away a bit deflated as he not sure what it is- which is disappointing.

He doesnt want to see me for 6 months which is a long time when you cant function for fear of collapsing. been to a&e and even they dont know what to do with me as we dont have neurologists there. A&e put me on tramadol. HAve also got to have a 24hr holter monitor.

The pain is slightly different to the haematoma that i mentioned. The amitrypline helps with the pins and needles and gets me to sleep. The pain at the occipital region gives me headaches at the front.

The neuro said both ct and mri were clear 2 mths ago which they werent as when had ct scan it showed a possible bleed thats why they did a mri.

My mood has changed with the pain.
