Here's my personal favorite false adult cell claim

Family Research Council
Adult Stem Cell Success Stories 2006

This is true:
About PD they cite Dennis Turner's story (Dr. Levesque) .

This is completely misleading- this is Amgen's halted synthetic GDNF!
"A 2005 study published in the Journal of Neurosurgery described how
University of Kentucky scientists were able to successfully treat ten
patients suffering from Parkinson's disease, observing noticeable
improvement in balance and motor function. The treatment involved
stimulation of the patient's own brain stem cells.[50] An earlier
2003 study in Great Britain noted an average of 61 percent
improvement in five patients after their adult neural stem cells were
stimulated with a similar protein injection.[51]

Slevin, J. T., et al., "Improvement of bilateral motor functions in
patients with Parkinson disease through the unilateral intraputaminal
infusion of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor," Journal of
Neurosurgery 102, 216-222, February 2005.

derived neurotrophic factor in Parkinson disease," Nature Medicine 9,

it's everywhere

the same claims can be seen on "do no harm," paradoxically found at www.stemcellresearch.org. david prentice at "family research council" is listed as one of the founders of this organization.

the other founders are associate professor of this, chairman emeritus of that, and not one of these "esteemed" gentlemen responded when i wrote pointing out the GDNF/adult stem cell lie, along with pretty much everything else they said and say about PD and ASCs and asking them to remove the following information (and much more) from their website:

"2005 British researchers performed the first ever pathology follow-up (see original study below) of one patient treated for Parkinson’s disease. The study showed that the protein stimulated sprouting of new neurons in the brain. Love S. et al., “Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor induces neuronal sprouting in human brain.” Nature Medicine 11, 703-704, July 2005.

2005 Scientists at the University of Kentucky treated ten Parkinson’s patients with a protein to stimulate the patients’ own brain stem cells and showed significant improvement in symptoms. Slevin JT, et al., Improvement of bilateral motor functions in patients with Parkinson disease through the unilateral intraputaminal infusion of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, Journal of Neurosurgery 102, 216-222, February 2005."

Awake and stewing - call me stupid, but don't all treatments work on our adult cells? Doesn't the treatment itself have to come FROM adult cells to qualify ?

Why are they calling it successful ?- tell that to the trial patients.

If the world didn't suck, we'd fall off......hmmm
