Tooth Extraction

Hi Bryanna,

Thanks for your help. My dentist told me that i need to extract the the tooth, that has a crown and root canal, done 4 years ago. I recently did the root canal for the next tooth to the old crown( which they its infected and needs to be removed).

I am afraid to remove the old one, they said that, they can see the infection on the x-ray. since its next to the new root canal, i am afraid what if it spreads?

i m only 24, and am afraid to lose the tooth, since they are very important for survival right...

Should i get it removed ?

Hi sangslee,

Teeth are important to keep.... only when they are healthy. When they are infected there is no procedure to make them well again. Chronic infection in the mouth will spread to other areas of the mouth and beyond.

The newly root canaled tooth.... may have become infected from the original root canaled tooth next to it as the bacteria travels through the blood vessels in the jaw bone. So to keep any root canaled tooth is to keep an infected tooth. Jaw bone infections usually do not show up on an x-ray until they have been brewing for awhile.

I have given you this information a few times now. I hope you are able to make a decision that you are comfortable with and keep in mind that your dentists is suppose discuss all of your options with you.

All the best to you...
Bryanna
