Lost my father to a ruptured brain aneurysm

Hello everyone.

I've really been searching everywhere for answers.

My father passed away January 25th, 2014 after three days in the hospital of a ruptured brain aneurysm. He had surgery to clip off the rupture, but the damage was too serve. The doctors said that the rupture had caused a stroke, which in turn caused the left side of his brain to basically shut down.

My dad had always been a smoker, and he never checked his blood pressure. A scan revealed that he actually had two aneurysms in his brain, one of which had ruptured. They also found a mass in his lungs which wasn't there before in a test he had last July.

The problem I'm having with all of this is that my dad was talking to me throughout it. He laid down and said his head was hurting. He seemed normal, except he was sweating. He was still responsive. Can a stroke show no symptoms even after it has occurred? If I had called 911 at the moment his headache began, would he be alright? After a rupture occurs, is there no stopping a stroke or the damage from happening?

I can't help but feel like I could have saved him by doing something sooner.
