Question about heart & EKG results

Hi, everybody:

I would like to know where to post messages about heart problems, tests...

In fact, I only have one question about a heart test, called electrocardiogram (EKG). If a person sometimes has problems with her heart, would the EKG be positive only when the patient is having symptoms of this problem while the EKG is being done? When this person's heart feels fine while the EKG is being done, will the EKG say the heart is fine even though there might be something wrong with the heart?

Thanks for your information.

.

It's been several years since my Dad has died. He lived in a different state than I. I spoke with him on a Friday. He said he had a physical the day before and his boarderline diabetes was up so the doctor game him a prescription for pills to take. He told me had an EKG and that it was good. As he put it "my ticker is in good shape". That Sunday, just a few days later, he had a heart attack. He was in the hospital for a few weeks.

I think the EKG may show if there had been some previous scaring; otherwise it does not indicate a heart attack is eminent or a possibe future problem. My Dad had never had any previous heart problems, therefore he did not have any previous scaring or indicator that he had a problem with his heart The EKG looked fine.
