Trigeminal Neuralgia

Good Morning,

So has anyone familiar with TN? Over the past 2 years, I have had 2 root canals and an apecoectomy.

I am asking because I have been experiencing jolts of pain to my eye, cheek, lower jaw, and back left side of my head (all pain is on left side). The pain is severe. It does not always last long (30 sec - 1 hour). But it comes in waves....much like a toothache. It is starting to affect my speech.

Also, I have 3 episodes of pins and needles feelings in my feet, legs, and left arm/hand. Blurred and double vision, and diminished vision during these episodes. Each time I have been given IV Decadron....which helps tremendously.

Could this be MS?

Searching for answers. :(

Hello

I also have TN. You describe it perfectly. I too went through all the dental work as the pain was clearly localized. I was in horrible pain and waves of pain. in addition, there seemed to be a constant feeling of chewing on electrical wires.

I'm so sorry. It has been a terrible journey. Ive had surgery, which made things worse.

I too developed the pins and needles. Every doc said something different.

I'm sorry I don't have good answers, but I am mostly in good pain control on a combination of meds from my general doc.

This is only my second post so I'm not sure i'm doing this correctly.

Hi to the two of you. My name is Melody.

I wish I could help. I just wanted to say Welcome. Others will come along and give you links to forums that will help you. I feel for you. That kind of nerve pain is horrible.

I hope you all have better outcomes for the new year. Believe me, I'm praying for you.

Mel

Thank you for your response. This has been going on for a couple of years, and it seems that no doctor wants to make a diagnosis. I have been caught between a Psych doc and a Neuro Doc for a year. I am going to see a new Neuro Doc in a couple of weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed that he will LISTEN.

The sad this is.....I had a head injury at work, then all of this mess started. Maybe they are linked, maybe they arent. But I know I am tired of dealing with this pain, the falls, and the pins and needles feeling. The vision disturbances are scary.

Will keep you posted.

Hang in there. Much love :grouphug:

between a psych and a neuro.
I know what you mean. If they don't know they send you to a psych.
if they don't know and you are female, they say you are depressed, or overweight, or the meds for the TM are causing your problems.

I have been down the same bunny trail. I got upset with my neuro because i felt she kept saying she didn't know what was wrong, or depression causing all my problems, but she continued to rebook future appts. to me that was "working the file" collecting money for my visits and never doing anything.

I think if they don't know they should send you somewhere else.

Yes it could be MS. Did they do an MRI? i had an MRI but never a spinal.

I find that as time goes on more symptoms appear. all neuro in nature. But I don't want to go back to that doc.

If I was to give you my best advice, go to a different hospital that specializes in nerve issues. Sometimes they take time to develop into enough clues to diagnose.

Please know others are on this same journey. I haven't had time to search the subgroups. but i know there are lots of folks here who can help.

Peace

Stuck between docs

Thanks Lacey,

The pain is SOOOOOO unbearable at times. It just feels like someone is holding a taser to the left side of my face......then it travels down my neck and things spiral out of control.

Thank you for your support. I hate the psych/neuro doc issue. It is sad. I am 35 y.o. and have never dealt with anything like this before.

When I was 28 I had a hysterectomy becuase of endometriosis....instead of hormones, I opted to work with a Psychiatrist. He is great. And he supports the fact that none of this is psych related.

I will keep you posted on how things go at the New Neuro doc.
