Treatment options in Canada?
 

Hi,

I am new here and am just wondering if anyone else here is from Canada and if anyone knows of a good place in Canada (especially Ontario) to go for diagnosis and treatment (non-surgical) for TOS? I am living in Peterborough, Ontario, but am willing to travel to Toronto, or even beyond, to see the right person... what can I say... I'm desperate!!! I am especially interested in hearing about any osteopaths or chiropractors in Ontario who are good at treating this often misunderstood condition! I have not gotten very far with physiotherapy and massage at this point (although I could try a different physiotherapist if anyone has any specific suggestions), and I don't think picking up a phone book and calling a bunch of places at random would get me too far, so, although usually very private about my health (I haven't even told some of my friends about what I'm going through), I am reaching out to y'all! Hi Kat. I am in Canada, but on the other end of the country from you. I have a pretty good chiro here, but I don't know anyone out there. If you look at the stickies on the front page, there is one about Dr.s etc. There may be some info about people in Ontario. My doc in BC is listed. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Hi I am from Canada too. Sorry I cannot help you in Ont.
Like Trix I am from BC.
I see an osteopath and a musculature/skeletal guy.
One says TOS the other says Myofascial pain.
I have DDD in cervical spine and osteophytes, but neurosurgeon will not operate again until worse.
So who knows who to believe.

I hope you find someone to help you.
I do find the osteo really helpfull, loosens everything up.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and welcomes to the forum. Unfortunately, there aren't any chiros or osteos listed for Ontario in those links. Will have to keep searching (and hoping someone closer to home happens to find this post and has some advice!) Incidently, I was born in beautiful B.C.... really miss it, too!!

Hi Kat.Names Linda here.I live near Ottawa....not sure about Chiro or PT...but God forbid it and you end up needing a good surgeon....Mine was the best in this area.When you do call for PT or chiro be specific and make sure they have experience with TOS!!!Some can do you more harm!!!!

Hi Linda. Are you saying that you tried a chiropractor and they made you worse? Did you end up needing surgery? This is definitely something I'd like to avoid! I agree that it's important to make sure that whoever treats you has experience with TOS. I made an appointment with a chiro here who had a good reputation, only to discover that he was one of those people who wasn't sure if he really "believed" in TOS!! I really wanted to see him, given that he had been recommended, but when that bomb dropped, I wasn't so sure anymore. I think you need to see eye to eye with someone in order to be able to trust them to heal you. You really need to 'click' with the right chiropractor (pun intended). And word of mouth definitely helps me personally with having confidence in someone...

I never had a chiro but have heard you need someone who understands and has experience with TOS...or at the very least believes it does exist!Stay away from that one!
I had vascular TOS involving both artery and vein so surgery was my only option.Surgery has helped but the return to work has been miserable.They have no idea what TOS is or even what a rib resection is and so therefore think I am lying when I say I cannot do some basic things.I am an xray tech.They wanted me back before my surgeon said to go back and because I listen to my surgeon they took 3 weeks of my pay!My PT is good and has helped me.Anyway rambled there...get someone experienced and who believes in TOS!....I have heard horror stories !Anyone else have trouble with work post surgery???

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that... you would think they would know better, especially being in the medical field! Glad you listened to your surgeon, though.
