Tramacet/Zytram
 

I know it has been a long while since I have posted here - however I finally found my way back here...

My question is if any of you have use Tramacet and/or Zytram/Tramadol and how you felt it worked for you in terms of pain control? If you did get relief, did it work for you for a long time or did you have to switch to another med(s) after a while?

Look forward to hearing to what you guys have to say...if anyone is interested I can post an "update message"...

okay do you really need my answer here??? I think it is not strong enough for our kind of pain ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WORKING and coming home with hellish pain due to that work....just guessing here.......:wink:

I know how hard it is and I'm not being critical just observational. I always have to take my diazepam and percocet 2 of each when I do crafts for goodness sake.....and that is not even for more than an hour. I try to pre medicate so that the pain does not get out of control.

i did get relief from this med in the beginning but it did not last long and I found I needed to increase the dose again and again. Also make sure you are not taking unnecessary tylenol in tramacet. and if you are on tramadol you can take tramacet the short acting one...yeah it has the tylenol....but you can take it between the long acting doses. You can also have the dose increased to three times a day as some people need the drug in their system more frequently. The 12hr dose schedule is arbitrary. I take oxycontin and not 12 hrs I take it every 8 hrs. My body has a fast drug metabolism.

My only experience is with the tramadol for sacro iliac joint. given the slow release one and made me very sick. because it was the slow release took longer to work out of system. A doctor friend used to use it alot until he had an op and was given it. Made him ill and he does not give it patients now..he believes what they said about being ill from it.

We are all so different and react to drugs and illnesses different.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who has a back injury and he had mentioned that he knew a number of people who got quite ill from Tramacet as well. I had some issues with dizziness while on Zytram and then the dosage was scaled back and then increased again and they don't seem to be as severe, however I have to question whether the dizziness is even connected?!

I do take the Tramacet for breakthrough pain in addition to the dosage of Zytram (300) as well as taking Topomax twice a day. I will still add in Advil here and there (not that it does much, but somedays I really hope for anything!)

My major goal, as is everyone's, is pain management. Through physio and chiro, even massage I am just not getting there - even being nearly two years post op. I am trying acupuncture next - anything at this point is worth a shot. And then of course is Botox. As I think I have mentioned, nerve blocks were ruled out for me in mid-2008 which was a major disappointment :( but where there is one lost treatment there has to be another, right?

I recently had an MRI that hopefully will shed some light. The results perhaps weren't at all what were expected but maybe will provide something to someone to get us headed somewhere - how's that for optomistic?!
