Negative TV commercials

It is worrisome for me to hear these pharmaceutical commercials, especially about the side affects. They give you the whole load to worry about. The worse one is about the poor leg circulation, which tells you can have poor circulation in your heart, and brain. Then they say you can have a heart attack, stroke, and ect. These commercials in my opinion should be banned after 12:00AM. They are really getting on my nerves.

We have already paid for the cable service. These Paid Programming commercials should be banned totally. Basically they are one half hour commercials.

Where did these pharmaceutical commercials come from anyway? These commercials hit hard late at night.

I also hate that deep bass guitar sound in the background of some of these commercials. They just irritate my nerves.

Some of those late night commercials have no class, and I have to look away. They have snuck these into commercial slots like weeds in a field. Shameful, and discusting they are.

Thank you for letting me vent.

One more thing. I'm tired of the networks on our cable services playing the same movies, and TV programing over, and over, and over again. There are thousands of movies, and thousands of TV programs, that they can put on,but they don't. BF:mad:

I have never seen a 1/2 hr drug infocommercial!

But I will say I hit the mute button all the time when I watch TV. (I don't watch much at night, but sometimes I will be up at 2am so I cruise around some). I'd rather cruise Ebay or the net than watch TV, most times. The AMC and Turner Classics sometimes have some nifty movies!

Some stations have a jillion commercials, and I mute them all.
Wrestling! Insurances, medications, etc --blech.

The only ones I do watch are those with animals in them. LOL

Dear Steve

i mute the commercials too... systematically. i hate it when i am watching one tv with headphones, and one of my parents is watching the other, and i mute my commercials, and the other tv is running commercials but i can't mute it.

yes lots of them are really raunchy - especially the late night infomercials. the ones that bother me most are the weight-loss/muscle tone ones. ugh. esp. for those electro-stimulation ones.

and a lot of them make me mad how they market things.

here the med commercials are kind of the opposite to what you describe. but they are sort of dangerous because of that. eg. for pain killers (NSAIDs like ibuprofen, that can cause serious side effects) - instead play down the side effects. they tell you of a new formulation that is easy on the stomach... no more pain and no tummy trouble... vitality... light as a spring breeze. but right at the end, a voice sped up so much as to be barely intelligible says something like "this product can cause side-effects that may even be serious. read the information pamphlet fully before using." that makes me mad because these are OTC's and hardly anybody reads the entire pamphlet... and then uses them inappropriately.

there is another one for absorbent/deodorant pads for "minor urinary leakage" - that starts out with a woman saying "now that i'm over 30..." - one version even shows 2 women saying "oh, you too huh..." like this is a normal or even common thing. is it is NOT NORMAL for women over 30, or even over 40 or 50 to have "leakages!" a few encounter this problem but it is easily corrected, often just with special exercises. Point is, these women need to see a doctor, to rule out any other problems and treat them... not be put in diapers! i keep meaning to write a letter to the health board... or the networks... or... i dunno.

i am sorry you have to deal with the opposite kind that scare the life out of you ... certainly not very peaceful watching. and yes there are far too many commercials... we have to pay for tv... you have to wonder what the deal is with the commercials.

I guess the " Inner circle " at the top of these cable companies get a tremendous amount of Ill gotten gain. In my opinion, they are steeling from their customers. White collar corruption.

LOL Yes these commercials scare the life out of me. When they say pain in your legs could be a sign of PAD,that could lead to heart attack, and strokes. They mostly come on at 3 AM,when people are trying to sleep. They should say some pain in your leg is normal, but they don't. They use scare tactics, and when you have heard the commercials over, and over again,it makes you wonder. It's crazy how they mention all of the possible side affects.

I was thinking this afternoon how much of what I'm thinking is based on fear. Where is this fear coming from. It's coming from resent TV scare tactics that people are deploying to make money.

Oh well. Thank you for the replies. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Dear Friend,

I hear you.

I change the channel or turn down the volume when I hear that stuff, but even so I end up hearing that garbage. And I'm not happy about it.

Maybe tv could have some alternative channels (shows) that avoid medically related ads. Maybe we could have one safe channel that is not depending on ads from big pharma to keep themselves running.

I think the PBS channels are safe to watch...at least it seems to be free from ads....don't know for sure though.
since we switched to the digital box we now get 3 PBS stations to choose from!!!!! We don't have cable.
I am sorry that fear causes you so much suffering.

Oh man I hate those commercials too. I usually make fun of them. Is it the ones where you are entitled to money if you have taken some medication on their list due to some negative dangerous findings? If so that crap is baloney and they just want you to go sue happy so you can get scammed by lawyers. Blah once I saw my old medication paxil on there in the list of dangerous medincines and I was like OMG hAHAHHA WHATEVER!? I also have a mute button. And so when the show is on I turn the volume back on that way. I like how they take those commercials and they are like listing all the side effects and crap but what they fail to tell is how only a tiny percentage is effected by those side effects.
Use the mute button if you can and then turn on the volume. or change to another channel while you wait for those dumb commercials to go away.

I hope you feel better. I make fun of the commercials most of the time and my grandma just laughs and tell me how awful I am. Awfully funny that is:hug:

I make my own commercials up and my grandma just laughs at me,

Sharla

Hi Sharla

Yes. When my NP started prescribing me seroquel, there where commercials on TV where lawyers where saying if this, that,or the other happened, you may be eligable to get money in a lawsuit. Now three weeks ago I saw a drug rep. seroquel commercial. That was the only one. This makes me wonder also. What is going on with seroquel? I still take it.:Hum:

They also play all of these other worrisome commercials late at night. I have a home theater receiver, and the TV sound that I can to mute these commercials out. I guess I could keep both remotes close to me so I can mute them. My remote contol for the volume on the receiver has worn out. I can still mute on that remote control. Dang!

Sometimes I can take the commercials. Right now they are bothering me. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Yellowfever 01-26-2010 10:12 AM

Lots of my friends take seroquel and it has done good things for them in their lives. Those commercials are scams. When they do that stuff they are just scams. Meaning there is nothing wrong with your medication. I took paxil when I was a teen and the commercials were saying that I was entitled to great sum of money for being prescribed to that medication. OH BROTHER! LIES. Nothing wrong with the medication. Like I said before it is a scam and they are all lies. Do not let Lies scare you. My friend you are in good care.

Sharla;)
