rsd in the eyes?
 

Hello,
First let me introduce myself. I am Christina, and what has me here is my mother has RSD. She got it back in 2005 when she broke her arm. I cannot explain how hard it is to see her go thru pain. When i get the chance i will write more about her and how she is and isnt dealing with this. I was wondering if anyone here knows if rsd can go to the eyes? My mother got what we thought pink eye 4 months ago. She went to her primary care physician and he refered her to a eye specialist. They told her she has what they call "angry eye". Then a month went by and they told her she has "arthritis in the eyes". I really don't think this is the case. She is getting a second opinion in 2 weeks. The pain she has with her eyes sounds like rsd to me. I have only found 2 articles online of ppl having what she has and it wasn't "angry eye or arthritis of the eyes". Anyone else know anything? links? would be great, im my mothers eyes right now, and finding any info would help.
ps She does have rsd in both arms, upper shoulder/ upper back/neck...and now we think eyes.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom... So sweet of you to help her out!!!

I have RSD in my eyes... I've had my eyes check intensively and the opthamologist says he can find nothing... He said that the RSD is affecting my eyes... they burn like crazy but not the dry eye type of burn, the cold air feels like someone's stabbing them.... basically my eyes feel just like the rest of my body...


I haven't found anything that helps my eyes... I'm sorry.

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry your Mother is going through this but I am so glad she has you to help her through it and cares so much.

My daughter is my caregiver and all I have to do is call her or her hubby and they are right here but she doesn't seem to understand what I am going through.

I am glad that you found the group and I hope you can get your Mother to come on and join us too. I know with eye pain like she must have it will be hard for her to spend too much time here but she will get so much support here and you also.

I have full body, systemic RSD and have flare-ups in my face and neck. Just this weekend my eyes were attacked for the first time. My eyes burned and watered. It felt like acid when the tears hit my face. Now I am left with a left puffy eye. Not sure if it is an infection or just bad irritation from the flare..

I am so sorry about what you and your mother are going through ((hugs))

Sometimes my eyes sting a bit. My vision has gone blurry several times as a result of the RSD and medication too.

I hope things start looking up for you and your mom soon

My pain specialist whi has been treating this disease for a couple of deades believes that RSD in the eyes is actually very rare but in fact the eyes are reacting usually to the medications we are often forced to take .
This does not mean that it not the case for your mum but she really needs a second, third or fourth opinion to get her problem treated.
I wonder what type of doctor diagnosed "arthritis" of the eye:confused:There are some auto immune diseases that cause ocular symptoms but in the most part these are most unusual and also usually caused by the drugs used to treat the problem.
There are many diseases of the eye which can lead to the symptoms of burning, pain , dry eye, pink eye etc but these all need immediate medications to prevent further and permanent damage.
She needs an opthalmic evaluation now, not in 2 weeks. Is there anyway you can bring the appointment closer so as to eliminate al possibilites and commence treatment if necessary?
You sound to be a very caring daughter, your mum is very lucky.

I agree that a intensive evaluation of your vision/eyes should be done as soon as possible.
My mother got an eye disease from a reaction to medications.

- I urge you to have this checked thoroughly by a eye expert - just to be sure it is nothing else that might need some other treatment.

How nice it is for you to take care of your Mom the way you do. Your Mom really raised you right :) .

Anyway I dont know about RSD in the eyes, but have her have them take a swab from her eye & send it in to see exactly whether or not it could be some type of obscure eye infection. The spring/summer before RSD actually went into the deep bone burning pain I had alot of trouble with my eyes. They thought I had herpes in my eye, yes a cold sore they called it. Of course I looked it up on the computer & yes that can most definitely happen. But my Opthamologist took a swab & sent it into the lab to see if something would show up so they could atleast treat it with the correct eye drop solution. Turned out I had what they called an "Obscure eye infection". Of course they did tell me at the time they took the swab that 9 times out of 10 nothing every showed up when they sent it in. I Lucked out, they treated it with the correct eye antibiotic & I finally got over it.

Well good news on my mother is i got her an apt with an Opthamologist next week. From what i hear this is the dr she should be seeing. The dr she was seeing for 4 months was some nuerologist . Anyways i hope this opthamologist can tell her what is wrong with her eyes. Thanks for everyone responding to my thread, i really appreciate it, and so does my mother. She would come on here but her eyes wont allow her.
