Grinding and popping joints
 
I have noticed just in the last year or so that I have a great deal of joint popping, snapping, etc., in the places I have most pain or stiffness: both knees, my lower back, hands and upper back/shoulder. Is this typical for MS? Does it mean anything is wrong? It seems the lack of mobility hit at the same time as the joint popping, so it's my guess that it is due to my MS. I haven't been able to find anything about this online, so I figured I'd post the question here.

My shoulders and knees pop all the time. Actually, my right shoulder makes a grinding sound when I move it up and down. Nothing hurts, though. I just attributed it to aging (I'm 50).

I've always had popping joints. Joints that grind. Far back as I can remember, my knees have always popped and made grinding noises. (my kneecaps arent connected the way they're supposed to be. they float...it's apparently a birth defect)

I've always been able to make my shoulders pop (usually painlessly) out of joint, and in the past 10yrs or so, they've started to make cracking/snapping noises when I do that. (I cant help popping my shoulders out of joint, it just happens, again I think it's connected to the kneecap birth defect)

In the past few years my jaw has been making popping/cracking noises. Not sure where that is coming from, but it started after I had my first dose of steroids for an MS flare.

Lately my knees have been hurting really badly. But I've been walking weirdly lately from the MS, so I think it's putting strain on my knees. I'm afraid to walk down stairs down. (good thing we have a stairlift for my mom here at home)

My back is hurting a lot, and I really want to pop my spine a little bit, but something is going on, and I cant do that. Not sure if that's related to the wobbly walking I'm doing now, or if it's because I'm numb in that area of my back right now.

Catch, I've been trying to get more exercise in the hopes that by moving my body more it will become more flexible and limber. I just purchased an exerciser that can be used while seated, lying down or standing up. I'm hoping it will help with my noisy body! :o Here is the link to what I purchased. http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/v...Exerciser-wDVD. It's under $20 and the video that demonstrates it makes it look very simple. I hope it helps me.

I am doing more yoga and the stiffness on my left side is improving, but if I miss a day or two stretching, I'm practically right back at square one. My knees are not so bad, but I do feel uncomfortable with going down stairs.

I haven't had a lot of popping of joints previously, with the exception of my knees, but I don't have popping in my knees, just a feeling of looseness, or tightness--I can't quite describe the sensation.

I just turned 50, and that's why I ask if this is typical for MS or just typical for 50 year old peri-menopausal women?

I have to say, 50 isn't 'old'.:) What may work to quiet the joints is Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement. It tends to lubricate the joints so they work better. I take Triple Strength twice a day, done it for a decade or more. Get it at Sam's.

glucosamine works on joints! i had an old dog whose legs couldnt support her, and within days of feeding her glucosamine, she was in great shape. i almost had to put her down, would ave had to if not for the glucosamine infused food
