Weekend Check in Thread: Friday, August 7, 2009

Hi,

How have you been feeling?

1. I watched Moonstruck on youtube in 10 minute increments over a few nights before bed.
I can quote lines from that movie -- even with my memory

2. I think my favorite old movies of all time are
As Good as It Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbyP8gbb1hw

3. And Witness with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p_tvjqSrBk
clip of "What a wonderful world this would be"

I ran some errands today.
More tomorrow.
Also visit with tdoc -- last time until December because of scheduling conflicts with both of us.

Any favorite movies?
Other favorite memories?

movies? nostalgia?

Too many favorite memories. My spirit lives off nostalgia. Then again if i didn't have it, i would not know what to do. Maybe this is bad.

I have no plans this weekend just hopes that i can actually do anything with any relative enjoyment and a minimum of light-blocking equipment.

lately i generally cannot manage a whole movie but i did loooove Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets. Too many good scenes in that. :) Musta seen it at least 3 times. But I wouldn't call it an old movie.

To me "old movies" are the b/w ones from the mid 40's and 50's! :p Love those too. Ever seen The Ghost and Mrs Muir (b/w, 1947) with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison? Haunting... literally. :D ooooooohhhh.

Name retrieval deficit in 40's ... other than actor Cary Grant was in many i loved. Later favorites were Desk Set ('57) with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and (also 50's) is Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell.

All actors I mentioned are favorites, too.

now i get off 'puter.

Have a good weekend everyone!

My weekend consists of me sitting in the living room, sitting in the bedroom, laying down in the bedroom....

I may try to watch a few movies that we have but I have never seen.

I won't be going anywhere.... no car. Mine is in the body shop after a minor wreck...minor meaning no one got hurt. My car took the damage... but it's going to take a week or so to get it back...

I hopefully can find someone to either take me to pick up the rest of my meds or go pick them up for me.

I'll be on and off of here this weekend... maybe this is a way for me to finally rest and not worry about having to go here or there.

:(:o:(

Mari, I quit watching movies years ago but the last one I did see I liked was Girl Interupted with Angeline Jolie in it.

Waves, have you seen the old movie Shenendoah with Jimmy Stewart in it? I loved that one.

Abbie, that's ashame you car is in the shop. I'm glad no one got hurt though.

I saw my abuse counselor today and it got me to thinking a lot today which in turn got me to feeling down kind of. Bobby came by this morning to pick up some tomatoes from me and then wanted to know if I'd be in our hangout later. He paid for my ice tea later at our hangout that I had like he's done the whole week when he's in there when I am too. I got some great information from Di that helped me feel better tonight. Friends are such a blessing.

Dear Waves,
I don't know if I saw any movies like you mention from beginning to end. So maybe if I had, they would have had a bigger impact on me.

Dear Abbie,
I'm glad that you are ok after the car business. That sounds traumatic.
Resting while your car is in the shop is a good idea.

Dear Befuddled,
I didn't see Girl Interupted. I already had done my own stint in a psych ward so I didn't really want to see it on screen. I'm sure that Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie did a good job.

I love old movies...Gene Kelly, Doris Day, Cary Grant...feel good movies.. A really fun one is The Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day. Or High Society and of course White Christmas..good stuff
I have a family reunion to go to tomorrow.. that means making something to take... today I have to find that motivation. Tomorrow I have to try to pretend I am ok.

Pam, have fun today.

Mari, yes they did do a good job in the movie.

I have 3 loads of clothes in the laundry mat. I am starting to feel better today about things. One of my neighbors came by this morning and we had coffee. I am tired though as I did not sleep enough last night.

hi

well... made it to sunday. (it is morning here.)

yesterday i was productive!
-- went to mail a letter to a friend (yes, handwritten kind!)
-- stopped at pharmacy to ask about tailored bupropion caps
-- stopped to get phone credit. my secondary provider screwed up my credit and it hasn't come in yet. so i have to get on the phone and "inquire - negotiate - insist - argue" tomorrow. :o
--i cleaned the fan, to keep my allergies in check. boy did it need it! oddly i had a massive allergy attack in the evening tho! :D:D:D

UGH. yesterday afternoon brought me a sparkle aura and a moderate migraine... mostly slept it off with some med help. the night brought me a "secondary" migraine - which is responding to treatment of primary cause, so i am ok-ish and improving now.

in between tv reruns as ability allowed.

thank goodness the reruns i watch are re-run multiple times during the week so i seldom actually miss episodes.

Barbara
nope, i have never seen Shenandoah but i'll keep an eye out for it. It isn't too often i get to see old movies any more. Used to a lot a few decades ago when i lived elsewhere and had satellite... A couple of channels used to air them frequently, TNT and another one. I don't even know if those channels exist any more. I am glad you are doing ok with seeing Bobby in your hang out. Therapy... can be hard sometimes. I hope in the long run whatever brought you down is helpful to you.

Abbie
hoping you're enjoying your movie weekend. did you see anything you particularly enjoyed? i have been in the straights trying to watch reruns (thank goodness the shows i watch are re-run 2-3x per episode at different times in the week, in between "down time."

Pam
I hope you thought of something for the get-together today that wasn't too hard. If not, you can always stop at a deli and get like a cold cut / cheese / or a veggie take out platter (i know, it isn't quite the same.) Anyway, my hearty best wishes acting "as-if" today! Try to strike a balance for yourself however. After you've stayed a while, if it gets overwhelming, give yourself the credit for getting that far, and let yourself off the hook i.e. go home. You don't want to pay for it triple - today and then the days following. All the same, my hope is that things will be light enough that you can sail through and feel ok. ;)

Beth
Yo??? where are you? are you farming away in facebook or what? howabout you show your face here??? :p wassup???

Mari (last but not least!)

How are YOU feeling???
What have you been up to this weekend?
Thank you for starting this thread. ;)

process of moving

Hi,
I think I like the weekend -- no calls, no appts, no places or things to take care of.

Hubby has been moving some of his things over to the new place every morning and setting up some new bookshelves. He is still working summer school.

I spent two afternoons recently with my work friend who is on a chemo drip in the hospital. He is doing a whole week in-patient.

Fri I saw tdoc. She was good.

On Sat hubby and I started trying to organize and clean a bit ---
=-=-
- cleaned out the portable microwave that we are bringing with us because the kitchen is not built yet,
- are currently defrosting the mini-fridge, . ..
- I took out some garbage bags of garbage to the dumpster . .
-hubby is doing lots of laundry loads. I'm not sure what he is up to -- does not seem like a priority to me but I stay out of his way when he has a project going

--- but Sat was really my first day that I got serious with this stuff.

Sunday morning he wants to clean a little more for me at the new place while I am sleeping.

We are paying a company to pack us up here. But we have to organize as much as we can first before they get here.

We really have a lot of stuff to do in the new place before Monday /August 17 when we start back to work.

(Whine:
I bought some new shirts and then shrunk them in the hot water in the washer. I am soooo disappointed. :( )

It's past bed time -- but hubby kind of wakes up from a long nap in the middle of the night and then gets a burst of energy and then goes back to bed. It takes him about 1 minute to go back to sleep when he wants to.
I tried to tell him that this is my night time and that I need to unwind.

I hope to be in bed by 7:00 am

M.
