I Have Been Approved!

I just received a call today from Disability to say I was approved...It was my first time without an appeal..I applied in September and was approved according to my case worker around Thanksgiving. I should be getting a check according to them sometime within the next week or so...I hope anyway...She set up an appt to talk to me about my kids and getting them set up as well...Regular checks will start in January...I think...

GJZ, Congratulations! Two months is not common, but mine didn't go beyond 3 months. I was turned down, just on the basis of the things I filled out myself, but the second time, they had a description of the extent of problem and how much my life was restricted, making it impossible for me to be self-supporting. So it is possible - so much of it depends on the SS-paid examiner, tho sometimes your doctors write tremendous descriptions of your limitations, the disabilities from pain and necessary meds.

SO CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so glad you and your chldren will have a secure feeling this Christmas - and yes, your first check will be in January. I set up automatic deposit 3 years ago and I have never had a single problem - and sometimes early deposits because of weekends and holidays. I never have to worry about checking the mail, then hurrying to the bank to cover the rent. So I even have an automatic check cut to get in by the 1st each month because I know it will be covered.

Merry Christmas and HURRAY for the system working quickly and appropriately!!

Teri

Praise God then because that was indeed a miraculous happening as opposed to what others go through to get it done . It just don't go that way .

I wonder what the statistics actually are for first time go throughs ?

VWBeetle,

I really believe it is dependent on your disability and how you prove it. I had almost 100 pages to hand to them when I was through with the application and then all of my medical records..I was very, very organized and had seen only the top docs in the spinal field...I think that has got to be a very real issue with them, the docs that we see. I think it was only a matter of them validating my records and claims and then deciding on the disability.

GJZH, congratulations!!!

I am glad you got your approval without too much fuss! That's one less thing for you to have to worry about now, so you can focus of feeling better! I wish you more great luck in the future! :) :) :)

VW Beetle,

I got approved the first time, too, and I'd heard it was extremely difficult to get for people who A) are relatively young, or B) have an RSI-related condition. Who knows -- it's such a ridiculous crapshoot -- but for what it's worth, I, too, provided pages of detailed documentation of how my injuries affected my daily activities. I'd be happy to let you know more of the specifics of what I included, if you're interested.

I have also heard that for RSI-related conditions, it's easier if your case is bilateral.
