Outlook Express? Strange event...

Has anyone else EVER had an experience when all of the inbox mail was opened and they had not opened it?
This happened to me yesterday and I feel as if I've been 'invaded' or something.... I do not believe I've done anything at all to open the mail that was unopened in the mailbox... Just let me know that sometimes these things happen? Thanks. - j

Sorry, never had that happen in Outlook Express to me. Are you sure you didn't accidentally click on a message then close it? It'll show as opened. You can also go to Tools at the top bar, then Options and click the Read tab. Then you can choose the number of seconds to display the message as being read. From zero to 60. Mine is set to 5 seconds. Hope this helps.

are you using Internet Explorer 8 beta? If so go back to IE6 until they get the bugs out of 8 (7 is far worse IMHO:rolleyes:)

I downloaded IE8 Beta and had all kinds of weird things happen in outlook express including all messages not showing which freaked me in terms of business:eek: Only the subject/sender showed but message body was blank
as well as instant opening as soon as I opened OE...I usually have a 30 sec delay before mail auto opens so I can weed out spam.

as soon as I went back to IE6 all was resolved

Honestly?

I've no idea what kind of 'programs' I've got on this 'puter! My DH the 'puter marvel had not encountered this ever either. Thing is, there were over 2 dozen + unopened e-mails that I was 'getting around' to open relating to medical research... Unless I did this in my sleep [an unknown phenomena to date] somehow either my 'puter got strange or it was 'invaded' somehow. Tho don't know who/what or whatever....
Turned the machine on in the Am and by noon, well, things were OPENED! Duh? I'll make him look into the bowels of the files and see what's to be found, if anything... if there is something notable? Will let you all know.
Most peculiar tho.
Thanks! and 's - j

The one problem that I have had is that every time I turn on my computer, there is a window from Outlook Express saying that they can save valuable space by compacting emails. They can do this and it will only take a few minutes. I don't understand this so I always close the message on the 'x'.

I heard that Beta is no good. Apparently, not been around long enough for people to work out the bugs...

Gee, my 'compacting'

thing only shows up when I'm turning things off? Go figger.
Compacting them doesn't hurt a thing, that I know of. You can also [if you have a puter twidgie like I do?] get that whole file put into a separate archive. I've saved stuff, and really don't have a clue nor need as to how to retrieve it, but I've the space and it's nice to know that it's there and also backed up. And, that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about these things! Oh, one more thing about 'compacting'? Depending on how many e-mails you have in there? If a lot it'll take anywhere from 2-10 minutes. Go and start it and get a cup of coffee or something else until done. It's no big thing.
I Guess I''ll just take this mail 'opening' thing as a one-off event [hope!] and if it happens again? Well, I do not know what kinds of tranquilizers I will have to take to deal w/'customer reps' on this issue. WHEW! Just thinking about it all sort of gives me a headache!

Thanks for the info on compacting and the time that may be necessary... Definitely, a cup of coffee will keep me company!

I hope the 'opening' the email thing  won't happen to you again. That is really a very strange occurrence . It would also be hard to explain to a representative...:D

have you tried to check your settings?

go to tools and see if you've might've checked on something by accident.

as far a programs go, I like to use Belarc Advisor

it's free and it'll give you a list of all you need.

I'd probably run a hijackthis also just to make sure you don't have any bugs...

good luck
