In bad pain....please help

They have me on gabapentin 300 mg x 3/day, tramadol 50 mg x 3/day and Ibuprofen 800 mg x 3/day and I am in so much pain still. I am still working up the gabapentin so right now I am on 2/day and will increase to 3 day tomorrow. My husband said I should take one of my morphine 15 mg to help but the pain management said I couldnt take that anymore. I dont want to wind up in the hospital from a reaction or anything. Is there anything I can take with this to help.

As far as medication goes, I really can't advise you.. and don't think anyone out there on the internet should.

It all depends on your health conditions/history and a lot of other things. Only your doctor is informed enough to advise you on that.

If your doctor said you can't take the morphine anymore, then don't. He/she wouldn't say it if there wasn't a good reason behind it.

You can try other things besides pain medications to get relief. Do you get any relief with heat or ice? Soaking with epsom salts? Elevating legs/feet? Are you on supplements to help? I'd suggest trying those things... until you can speak to your doctor and get advice on your medications.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Can you describe where exactly this pain is?

Is it sharp, and stabbing. Dull and deep. Or burning in type?
Is is worse with movement, or is it all the time?

The pains is everywhere from the middle of my lower back down...I do have some in my upper body but its not as bad as my back down.

My lower back and knees is sharp and stabbing. My hips are burning but it feels deep and my feet are throbbing but it also feel like pins are being stuck into them along with a burning sensation. Between my knees and hips the muscles are burning...kind of a dull but deep feeling and the calves of my legs feel like pins and needles.

It is all the time....I get up and walk for awhile....I have tried stretches....I sit on the couch......I have laid both on the couch and on the bed....Nothing is helping.

I was looking kind of if tylenol is ok or something like that not necessarily to take the morphine just something else that might help a little.

I'd really try to ice your back where you think this is coming from.

Stay away from heat for now. Ice for 20min 3 times a day and see what develops.

If you think someplace in the back is the epicenter, you can ask to try Lidoderm patches (ask your doctor as they are RX only) back there... they do work. Sometimes you have to several days in a row to get a feel for how they are working. Expensive but less so if you have insurance.

I've used Lidoderms for a long time successfully.

Put the ice on your back and knees for now...see which works the best. This will be a clue to what is driving your pain.

I am sorry you are hurting so much.... did something trigger you? Like too much bending over to pick up your babies?

It started so bad after going off the morphine and on to the new meds. I havent done anything that I can think of to cause it. I am still picking up the girls as much as I always did. I am not nursing now so I am not even holding Kataryna as much as I used to. She is liking being on the floor more and is almost crawling so shes not requiring as much attention. I still get on the floor as much as I always did to play with them but getting up is getting harder. My husband has been doing all the housework because I just cant do it right now. I dont know what caused it....I just want some relief.

My husband is going to get ice right now.....Thank you so much for your reply.

The neuro thinks something more is going on with my back other than the nerves so is requesting for an MRI. We are just waiting for insurance to approve it.

I remember when my son was about 8 mos old. I reached down to pick him up out of the playpen, and my back went out!

I have an old strain/injury at T12... putting my arms out and bending over is still problematic for me.

I had to call my husband to come home... I was totally incapacitated. It lasted a week! After 3 days he could go back to work, but I didn't put the baby down after that so low. Only on the couch etc or higher!

I still get twinges doing weeding and some housework...so I really suspect you may have some similar thing somewhere down your spine. It is alot of stress picking up little ones...over and over. Its good you are getting that MRI!

300 mg x 3/day

thats a really small dose for big pain. Would have thought moving up the dosage here first before trying anything else.

Checking in on you.... how are you feeling today?

I'd give that doctor a call and tell him you can't stand this pain.
And have him give you something else, etc.

I agree about calling your doctor to see if he/she can rx you something. I agree the neurontin is low though I know for me it was important to not increase too fast. Some people need 3500 a day I think for pain relief.
I am glad you are getting an mri. Do you think for now till at least you get more testing you could not lift your kids? I know it is probably hard not to but at least till you know what is going on. I hope you are feeling better
