Hi. I am going to ad based on my experience but I know little on vitamins and supp so hopefully someone else will reply. I used to have falling out hair and I took biotin. I also got protein conditioners at home and at the salon too which helps. I thing healthy oils so make sure you get your omegas and adequate protein in your diet. I am not sure if you a women or man but especially if a women who blow drys so much try to let it partly air dry or not wash your hair every day. Also on lower heat and not sow close to your head. A good shampoo and conditioner too. Hopefully as summer comes you will see more growth. I used to work in a salon so I saw how people coloring their hair etc can add damage.Good luck

Hair loss...
This is a big subject...
1) due to hormones 2) due to drugs taken 3) fungus infection of the scalp 4) genetics 5) nutritional deficiencies 6) medical issues (low thyroid) http://www.hairlosstalk.com/newsletter/article195.htm Because it is such a personal issue and complex factors change for each person, visiting a hair loss forum may give you more information than here. |

I had this problem as well and I think it was primarily a problem with low thyroid. Ironically, I had one Dr. tell me my thyroid was fine and another tell me it was a little low. I'm taking a medication with T3 in it. Your medication might not be all that effective for you. IMHO, some folks might need to take medication with T3 in it to get symptom relief. www.about.com has various websites. The one on thyroid is very good and there are discussions on this subject. I like the books written by Mary Shoman. After taking my medication and switching to a very gentle shampoo, plus getting on some good vitamins...the top ones in my mind were Centrum Silver and the B Vitamins, things greatly improved. Wishing you well...I know this is a very frustrating situation.

one simple thing to try...
There is a fungal organism that lives on the scalp and it can cause hair loss.
Not the same as ringworm. I don't have its name handy, but Nizoral shampoo can fix it for you. Nizoral is expensive but it may help. Putting protein on hair is not as useful and eating well and getting the protein that way. Also MSM which is found in some arthritis remedies today, is very nice for hair and nails. It provides sulfur which the hair needs. (esp important if you don't eat egg yolks which typically supply it for us). Another thing to look at is zinc. Poor zinc levels impact hair alot. Some drugs like Depakote and ACE inhibitors for example deplete zinc. Estrogens do too. A good one to try is OptiZinc by Source Naturals ..it is easy on the stomach and not expensive. One a day is plenty for most people. |

thanks you for the advice . I kind of think it may be the thyroid medication. I have been on it for 15 yrs plus years . and would like to stop it and see what happens . I am going to a new Dr. next week and I will bring that up. thanks again |

Did forget to mention this is hair all over body . I have not shaved my legs in about 3yrs no hair , no hair under arms and pubic just about gone. Does that tell you any?

Body hair is lost
with aging. You have to expect some of that!
And I think what is most puzzling is that when you lose the hair on your arms and legs, it changes location, and grows on your CHIN.... LOL |
I'm 61 and just started having this problem,I think the many meds
we take do a job on the hair, but have you asked your PC what it might be??? The loss on legs and other body parts wouldn't bother me,it cost a fortune in a salon..I use the stuff people buy to get Chlorine out of there hair,it not all that expensive and my Dr. told me helps get rid of the Meds,as did my hairdresser.. Did you hair fall out 15 yrs. ago when you were put on meds. It sounds like what Mrs.d is talking about. We spend so much money on trying to stop this why not try what she suggested, You can get the same thing on arms ,legs a pubic hair area. Good luck to you. Hugs Sue |
