Brain Fog

I may be posting this in the wrong forum, is so please let me know, but here is the issue:

my wife has been experiencing the following over the past few days...about 3 to 4 times a day, she zones out, she says it feel like there is this fog in her brain, there is apart of her that is aware this is going on, but she is unable to shake it off, she just needs to stay very still, even hold herself very tight, then after a bit of time she feel completely fine, like nothing even happened.

Last night I saw this for myself, she just zoned out and seemed very sleepy, I took her back to the bedroom, and she seemed to fall right asleep, then less than two minutes later, she was up and wide awake, wondering why she was in bed...

I have sent her to her doctor today, but any ideas, suggestions, etc...would be very helpful...

Thanks

Hello dertitan

What your wife is experiencing, isn't normal. The symptom you describe should be written down, and given to your PCP for evaluation. It can be from so many different things. Sugar being low, even blood pressure being low, no way to really know without her being seen. You don't want to have a real problem, and your worry will go away, once the doctor has been consulted. Better be safe, and head to the family doc. I hope a good resolution can be found. ginnie:grouphug:

i just got a call from my wife, she just left the doctor's office, she actually had an episode just before getting to the office...

she describes this like when the episode hits, it is like she divides into two parts, one part of her is in a heavy fog, blurred, cannot think, cannot process; however, she is still able to drive and her vision is not blurred, just her thoughts or ability to think and process, she also stated that it becomes hard to breathe, but she doesn't get the pounding heart beat like might be experienced in an anxiety attack...one thing that seems to help stop the episode is if she immediately goes out for a run, during the run, shes say it is like a light switch gets turn on, immediately she feels like her brain and body just open up, gets immediate clarity etc..

The doctor increased her dosage of zoloft to 100mg

Thoughts???

had an episode during lunch

ok, just got back from lunch with my wife, she had one while we were eating, all of a sudden she got real quiet, just starred off into space, i asked her was she having one, she did not respond other than to simple smile, once it was over she described that she felt like a headache was coming on, along with what she describes as fogginess, she felt pressure along her forehead, she said she remembers me asking her if she was having one, but she simply could not respond

Hi, it's been a while since you posted so wondering how your wife is doing?

I'm having very similar problems, am told could be complex migraines or seizure, don't know yet.

Keep going to the dr. and even find a different one that will look past her Zoloft script. Document everything! When she ate before hand, what she was doing, etc... document the unresponsiveness and lapse of time.
How long has it been happening, how long has she been on Zoloft? etc....

Likely medication related. I once took Topamax at a high dosage and had a similar reaction. I agree with Ginnie and the others, she (or you) should record these symptoms/episodes.

Was she ok before taking this medication? Increasing the dosage of Zoloft sounds concerning. Did you go with her to the doctor? Is she taking the medication for depression? Depression alone can cause cognitive problems.

There is a chance she might get accustomed to this med (assuming it is med related) and she'll feel better soon. Check the insert that came with the med or go on line and check it.

If not, maybe it needs to be reduced or changed. Maybe go with her at least to part of her next doctor's appointment next time...at the beginning...to explain your concerns.

Also, if your wife isn't doing so already, it might be wise to make sure she is taking some of the basic vitamins for good health like a multi vitamin. There are even tests to check for deficiencies...might be good for her to have those.
