Confused and Stressed. Wish I had some answers

I have been searching the web and seeing as many specialists as I can get scheduled but I can't get any answers. No one seems to know what is wrong with me. I hope that you guys can help! :)

Here's the background. Every once in a while I get this "pop" feeling on the side of my neck. Sometimes right after it nothing happens, sometimes I get a little light headed, and so far three times I have passed out. Two times were three years ago. Once in the driveway. I felt the "pop" and knew right away that i was going to pass out. I sat down and then fell back and was out for a good minute or two. I peed my pants when this happened. Once I opened my eyes I was just fine. It happened again a few days later when I was in the shower. I went to see the Neuro. He did a few tests and told me if I pass out again to come back to see him.

Fast forward to Feb 1. I was out and about doing some stuff. I went to the bank and paid the mortgage, got back into my Hummer H2, started the truck (it was cold out!), called my husband to find out if he needed anything on my way back, felt the "pop" and knew that I was going to pass out. When I opened my eyes, I was INSIDE the bank! I had backed my Hummer through the bank and crashed into the vault. It took long enough for me to open my eyes that the fire truck was already there and the ambulance was just pulling up. Once again I peed my pants.

I went to the ER, the doc there said that I have seizures. I went to see a Neuro and he is baffled because I don't seem to have any kind of Postical stage. Once I open my eyes I am fine. I did have a headache for days, but I just assumed that it was from the accident and stress of totaling my truck, not being able to drive anymore, and all of the "I could have killed someone" thoughts going through my head.

I have had three more "pops" since the accident. Once nothing happened and twice I felt a little light headed. The last time I noticed a headache afterwards. Headaches are common for me, though. I have migraines and take a *baby* dose of topamax for them.

I go to see the E specialists at UVA in April. They didn't have an appointments sooner than that. Until then I feel like I am stuck. I have been pretty depressed these last 19 days.

Does what I am explaining sound anything like a seizure to you guys?

Thanks!

My mom has complex partial seizures. All she can tell us is she notices her eyes get really blurry and sometimes she feels a headache. We want to get her a medical alert bracelet so when this starts to happen she can call for help. The hard part is she doesn't remember anything after the seizure.

Someone will come along soon and help you I am sure. It's a scary thing isn't it?

Hi Lee,
Welcome to the forum! I'm no neurologist but I've had epilepsy for 38 yrs. and what you are discribing sounds like you might be having a simple partial seizure also known as an aura seizure that is leading into a either a absence or complex partial seizure.
Stess and lack of sleep are the 2 main things that can trigger a seizure along with hormones changing. My advice to you is to get a calendar and write down what time these possible seizures happen along with a discription also write down when you stop and start your monthly cycle. By doing this your neurologist may see a pattern in your seizures. I would also advice you to go to an Epilepsy Center and see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) The Dr. should do an e.e.g , MRI, CT scan, PET Scan along with a complete blood count on you. I found that using nutra sweet and cell phones can cause seizures because it causes more electrical activity in the brain. Migraines, and depression are all a part of epilepsy. One thing that has really helped me is taking vitamin B12 1000mcg. a day. Take note of what the weather is like and if there's a low pressure this can sometimes cause seizures for some people that have epilepsy. You also mentioned that when you take a hot shower you have had a possible seizure, this happened to me also and I found out that the hot water hitting my head triggered seizures so try and take a cooler bath/shower to see if it helps you. I've taken many seizure meds (AED's) over the yrs. and not a single one stopped my seizures. I finally had a DNA blood test done and found out I was drug resistant. You may want to request a DNA blood test so the Dr. can find what seizure meds is the best for you that has the least side effects. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue
