Spinal Accessory Nerve post massage - total loss of trapezius function

Very scary thing for me. Former collegiate swimmer, but still get in the pool 5 days a week. Was having my traps and neck worked on and the therapist got a bit deep. Never felt uncomfortable, actually felt great while on the table. Lot's of trigger point type sensations so figured all was good. She was in the posterior triangle/upper trap area. When I got up from the table I was astonished to feel a very heavy and 'long' feeling shoulder. Tons of droop and I had and still have zero ability to move in abduction. Flexion is marginal, but it's clear to see there is zero trapezius function.

I met with my PT and ortho and it's their assessment the accessory nerve was dinged/pinched. Now talking about nerve conduction study?

Has anyone had this injury and did you recover? I'm walking around with my hand in my pocket to support my shoulder b/c it's excruciating on my anterior shoulder/rotator muscles.

Lots of ice and NSAIDS. Sigh. Thanks...

Spinal Accessory Neuropathy

Hey,

I swam in College and Highschool and have been swimming about 3-4 times per week since. Last summer my left spinal accessory crapped out, it was 95% better in January when my right spinal accessory went....and when that one was ab out 95% better my left went out again (last week). I carry my kids on my shoulders sometimes, I swim and I ride a tri/time trial bike -- is there any way these activities could cause this problem?

Trapless in Erie...

Perhaps an expert body worker or chiropractic therapy might be of help?

Repetitive motion & postural causes possibly?
