Digestive and bowel issues!

Does anyone have daily digestive and bowel issues?!!!!! I cannot seem to get into any kind of rhythm here. It has been worse than the tremoring and weakness. I do have a bladder disease.......but it's been under control for the most part. I eat a diet high in fiber and no inflammatory foods. Is abdominal and back pressure anyone else's symptoms???? I've had it all since day one! Over a year.....had endoscopy, colonoscopy, gastric emptying....you name it! I am sick EVERY day!!! Food diaries prove nothing and I've lost 55 lbs. I am so depressed. I just started Levidopa 3weeks ago. I take Cymbalta and lunesta.

Probiotics have helped me

Hi Kate - I had intestinal issue long before PD, in fact most of my life. I had major constipation before being diagnosed, sometimes going only once per week. Miserable! Constipation is often a symptom of PD. I also had h.pylori for a while before finally being diagnosed, and having that cleared up with antibiotics. If you haven't already, you may want to get tested for the h.pylori bacteria, just to at least rule it out.

Currently, before bed, I take 500mg of magnesium, and I take 4 probiotics. The brand of probiotics I use is called Syntol AMD. In addition to the probiotics, Syntol also includes prebiotics and digestive enzymes. I believe these products have contributed to my digestion now being w.o.n.d.e.r.f.u.l!!!! The best it's ever been in my life. Probiotics are very important - especially if you have ever taken any antibiotics.

I hope this helps :)

I seem to remember the figure of 40 % of people with PD have bowel issues at some point. It also seems to be a common complaint with the public at large, hence all the shelf space taken up with stomach remedies and the terrible ads on TV.

I would suggest asking the nurse at the specialist office what she or he finds works for constipation with PD patients. I know that there so many options available it gets really confusing. It is no joke to have these issues. It ends up getting in the way of trying to lead a normal life.

I certainly agree on the magnesium for Everyone Period. It's a major deficiency in our population and there is a long post on the vits/supps area here on magnesium. I would not live without it. I've had a history of constipation for most of my life, as did my mother and her sisters...so many and I keep hearing laxatives are the #1 selling otc medicine.

Extra Vit C thru the day keeps things moving better too.

Magnesium Citrate seems to be the form of bowel health. Then there is Calm, the power form of mag citrate that works great for blocked up. Also getting in the habit of drinking tepid water (I use distilled) with fresh lemon squeeze. Many use this daily.

Aloe Vera supplements help to keep things moving too. And drinking aloe vera juice too.

I don't have the PD challenge but my cousin lost her husband to bowel complications last year. Gotta keep cleaned out.

I agree too with Probiotics and I take them daily, 30billion from Health Origins. And digestive enzymes too which I take daily.

Many medications can do a job on our bowels and I have had a few instances from some meds over the years. Not fun.

Keep hydrated and use room temp water, not Cold.

PS: I like DGL and use it 3 times per day. I ended up with an ulcer back in the 80's from an anti inflammatory drug and I've always had a concern as I take ibuprofen. With DGL I have no issues and it's going on over 5 yrs that I take DGL.

My friend deals with reflux, heartburn, gerd and is now taking DGL a couple yrs and it's made a good difference for her.
