My new psoriasis treatment

My prescription ran out of my ointment and the dermatologist wouldn't refill it without an appointment. I didn't feel like dealing wiht it. Psoriasis is just so difficult to deal with, it seems like you go 2 steps forward and 1 step backwards all the time and pay out so much money. 2 years ago I was doing the light treatment thing with some slow results but at 100 degrees out side I just didn't want to do that! So I heard on TV this medicine called psoriasin so I went to Walgreens and bought it. It's just plain coal tar ointment! And it's working. I can't believe it. I don't know how long it will take to work or whether it will have to be the rest of my life but it sure is better than what I was paying for my Rx. It does stink a bit.

Hey, if it works AND saves you money, the stink is worth it!

I had problems with psoriasis (or it was seborrhea dermatitis, I never could get an exact answer on what it was) back in the 90's. (it's been gone for at least 12yrs...only notice problems when I'm stressed now)

I used to use a shampoo called T-Gel made by Neutrogena to try to control it. Active ingredient in T-Gel is coal tar. Smells funky, makes your hair feel weird, and if you have any white hairs, makes more of your hair turn white, but when I used it once a week it seemed to work pretty well for me.

I'd put it on my hair and shampoo it in, and then I'd have to wait a few minutes with it in my hair. I'd rinse it out, and sometimes I'd re-wash my hair with regular shampoo after that. (because T-Gel had a weird smell)

I've been meaning to get a new bottle of T-Gel because now with my scalp on the right side being numb (along with the rest of the right side of my body) I dont feel like my hair is getting clean, and it's itchy. Makes me wonder if the problem is coming back. Plus, it kind of strips all the buildup from the regular shampoo out of the hair. Hoping it will make my hair feel cleaner.

I use Neutragena weekly and find scalp gets better with no white stuff on it, I can wear black shirts now, told my sister and DD about it and both use it now. I had exema patch on bellyas child (went away by self), but scalp can act up. I can feel the difference if I run fingers up neck into scalp.

I use a Walgreen equivalent of T-Gel and it keeps it just under control but doesn't do anything to get rid of it. I had a Rx from dermatologist that I put on my scalp overnight and then washed it out the next morning. Made all pillows stink, had problems keeping shower cap on in bed and was expensive and my new insurance didn't pay for it. So it's coal tar for me.
