Depo-Provera injection
 

Ok, this is a woman's issue.

I came off this last Spring/Summer - due to new guidance brought out saying that studies had shown loss of bone density (obviously not good for someone who only weight-bears during transfers).

I've heard some horror stories from people about when their periods came back (in terms of heaviness etc) - has anyone had any good experiences?

(I'm hoping that as I'm a few years older now, my body will have decided that getting up in the night every 2 hours just isn't practical :p ).

the only experience that I have had from the shot was it triggered my first manic episode.
So I am not too hot about hormonal altering medications.

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply, but the reason is because I have no experience with the DP injections, but my sister does (I was waiting for her to call me back to tell me her experiences).

She never got any sort of period while being on the injections, not even spotting. She stopped getting the injections (last fall) and her period returned in April. She said the first period was pure hell, very heavy, a lot of cramping, she was so upset that she almost started getting the injections again, but she decided to wait and see.

She did not get a period in May, and then in June it returned but this time (in her words) it was the easiest and best period she ever had. No cramps, a short and light period.... and it has stayed that way ever since.

Just so you know, she started getting the injections as a method of birth control, and when she stopped the DP injections she started using condoms --- in other words, she was not geting the injections for a medical reason (just birth control) and she did not replace the DP injections with the pill or the patch or any other hormone therapy type of birth control, and she was also not trying to get pregnant after stopping the DP injections.

Thanks very much for sharing your experiences - just have to hope that mine doesn't decide to restart at an inoppurtune moment (e.g. during a clinical placement) - as I'm not convinced about the mini-pill if the injection causes bone density loss.

I was on the depo for 3 years and when we lost our son I stopped getting it for the fact I wanted another child.
I have had NO problems what so ever since getting off it I feel much better no side effects and monthly time is a piece of cake. no cramps nothing..

I was on Depo for 4 years. While I was on it I would only spot one day that time of the month. After I went off Depo my period stayed the same for about a year then gradually my period went from 2 days, to three, to five. I've been quite regular since. First two days would be kinda heavy.......but then pretty light.~~~Jess

What about IUDs?
I used them 2x and had no problems , they lasted for 6 yrs each.
