Unemployment with 'Limitations'....

Just throwing this out there to see if anyone might have a tip or two for me in regard to being on unemployment, yet I have some limitations.

First, let me just say that I've lost my job of 25 yrs due to the business closing. The work I did was very similar to working from home. I had an office to go to and I could work my own hours and I was by myself (no co-workers)

Every week when I turn in my wkly UE claim, one of the Q's I have to answer is:
"Are you able to work 4 or more days of the week without any undue restrictions?"

Well, I 'do' have limitations in that I suffer debilitating back spasms and I have to go lie down on a flat surface for 10 - 15 minutes. Sometimes as often as once or twice in an hour. For this reason, I am unable to work in an actual office setting.

However, I CAN get a lot of work done, as long as I am working from home because I can work 'around' the spasms, even if I have to work long into the evening. SO, I've been searching for 'At-Home jobs'. (I have been able to find actual bonified home-based websites via my local workforce center) so I don't have to weed thru all the scams - hoot! :))

If I were to answer NO to the above question, I wouldn't be able to collect my UE.
Do you think I should be answering 'yes' to that question?
Is there a difference between 'Restriction' and 'Limitation' ?

My doctor suggests that I do work from home, but he hasn't firmly set it as a 'restriction' per say.

Thoughts?

I definitely feel "limitation".... is much different than "restriction". You obviously are not restricted from working 4 or more days a week. Right???

Pray all works out well for you,

Hi Rrae

What you described is exactly why I had a home based business, to work around my medical issues. I know about limitations. Because you have to lay down that often, maybe you should think about Disability. You also might want to put an add in the paper, for work you can do at home for a company or a person. Your doctor will have to say you are disabled to have the disability go through. Sometimes a local college or university, have openings for people who work at home. If you really do still want to work, I think I would try the "add" in the best paper around. Sell your strong points on what you can do, not anything about limitations. You may be surprised, and get something that would be good for you. I really hope you find that sweet spot where you still can earn something, and still take care of yourself at home. I wish you all the best Rrae, I really do. Wish I had more ideas for you. ginnie:hug:

Have you considered utilizing Voc Rehab Counseling? They will provide testing, including medical, and help you find a job which may include government jobs that you can do from home.

Issues such as your come up when someone is simultaneously applying for UE and SSDI, and state rules vary widely. When in doubt go into your UE office and discuss your situation. It would seem to me that you are able to work with accommodations, and that you may qualify as eligible for jobs that are given first priority to disabled workers.

Thank you LIT LOVE - I'm glad to hear that those work options are out there. Your post came as perfect timing, as I am supposed to have an interview with the workforce center soon.
I will surely ask about this!
