another toe nail problem

i have been having so much stabbing pain that seems to be coming from a toe nail [the one next to the pinky toe] now the toe is deformed somwhat from having a neuroma removed year ago, and from the neuropathy, and rsd ... so it is not a pretty toe ... now there is no redness and the edges of the nail seem okay. so i am confused. i thought it may be ingrown but i read that thread and i don't have anything but the pain and the deformity. anyone have any ideas????? it is not swollen unless my foot is swollen. but i am having a hard time even keeping a shoe on.

Hi Joan,

Did you get RSD in that foot after surgery? Could it be that it might be coming out. That's pretty close to the surgery site isn't it.

I have a neuroma under my toe next to my big one. I have had shots twice to keep from having it removed. So far so good. I know the foot and the hand are suppose to be two of the places that are the worst for RSD to come out after surgery along with TOS surgery.

Hope it starts to get better soon.

thanks ada,
i got rsd from hip replacement surgery. i had the neuroma removed right before that hip surgery, the shots had not worked. anyway, i cut more of the nail last night and took ibuprophen, and i had a 'shoe on' day today so i think i caught it before it got to be anything major.

An ingrown nail is not necessarily obvious. Dig in there and be sure it's not growing into the skin unless you can see it.

It might be an infection. A doctor can give you the best advice for this but if it is then there's an over the counter anti-fungal called Lotrimin that's effective. If there's an infection back under the nail you'll need a prescription.

I'd get it looked at if you don't see the problem.

thanks, i did trim around a bit more and today is much better. so i think i have it under control. it is hard when you can feel it, but not really, because i have no feeling but pain in most of that foot. joy joy i say!!!
fondly, joan
