Surgery on Tuesday Jan. 5th
 

Well it's finally here...after years of pain, a double neck fusion, endless therapy, 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions, it's finally here.

I'm not afraid of surgery, only of the pain and recovery after. What I can't and should not do. Having to let others do so much for me.

Knowing the road to recovery is so long. My doctor has said probably 2 years before I fully feel the 60% better he's promising.

Only 5 days left....

I've never had the rib resection and scalene work that wa srecommended for me. I thank God for that. But if it comes to it, I, like you, will have to submit. You'll get over it one day at a time. Each day behind you will be one day closer to recovery.

I will be at Pacific Medical in San Francisco. In on Tuesday and home on Saturday. Any advice would be great....I have been following this link about 4 years and have read lots of stories, but sometimes it's nice to hear helpful tips again, because we forget.....all this medication I can barley remember what I did last weekend.....hehe

What I remember from previous posts...
have many pillows handy for propping and comfort, a recliner to sleep in at times is handy, some easy meals & prepared meals in freezer, have as much cleaning/organizing /prep done ahead of time so you won't be temped to do things too soon.

Be very careful driving or riding in cars with other drivers , a few members were in car accidents not long after surgery - it set them back in their recovery and a possibility of more/new damage.

Bump up for annehere - hoping all went well yesterday and that she's in full recovery mode.

Don't do anything. Now is the time NOT to make scar tissue.

It is TRUE that SURGERY BENEFITS MAY TAKE A YEAR OR TWO TO REALIZE. I remember thinking that is so crazy, but my neuro told me I'd been years in the making, so let this surgery do its healing and try to be patient.

I noticed the first year I had NO headaches anymore! Yay! But, now it's been 3 1/2 years and I have hardly ever full blown RSD, but I do get headaches almost every day again...so trade some stuff for other stuff. The RSD was horrific, though, so I do not regret surgery in the least. I do not know anyone personally who had surgery who regrets it. Each person had some relief, if not just the stop or slow down of any increasing symptoms.

ALSO, KEEP AWAY FROM GERMS. COVER YOUR MOUTH IF PEOPLE ARE VISITING. DO NOT GET A COLD OR FLU. DON'T FEEL YOU HAVE TO BE POLITE AND HUG AND KISS AND STUFF - THIS SURGERY IS ALL IMPORTANT NOW.

Ann, I hope you have great luck with your surgery. It seems like many people do get some relief.

Tam, I just wanted to raise my hand and say I very much regret my surgery. I had surgery on the same day five years ago, at the same hospital, probably with the same surgeon. All of my symptoms are worse and I've developed very frequent migraine headaches. But, I had surgery because nothing else was working and I wanted to give recovery my best shot. Hopefully, Ann will have a much better outcome.
