Does anyone have a problem with B6 NP?

Without a supplement I am deficient and with a supplement I am toxic. I was told to take 50mg. This was too much. So I had to adjust to 25mg. Still too much. This week my doctor told me to stop taking a supplement and test again in 4 weeks. He also said "we are going to have to get a dietician to help formulate things so you are not toxic".

Has anyone else had a problem getting the right amount of B6? Why would my body so sensitive to this vitamine? I fear until we get this under contol my PN is going to continue to get worse.

Julie,

Have you seen my other response(s?) to you? It sounds like you need the usable type of B6, P-5-P. If a person cannot convert the usual type pyridoxine hcl, it can build up and cause a problem.

Julie, this time last year...

I THOUGHT I'd been doing all the right things taking extra calcium, magnesium, Vit D, a co-enzyme B complex and a good brand of multi-vites. I kept getting NUMB-ER. So, I sat down and took a good look at all my supplements' labels. I found out that B-6 was in the multi-vites well in excess of basic daily requirements, The B-complex also, plus the calcium caps included extra '6' to the point where I was getting between 8-10 times what should be considered normal. So I stopped all supplements, got on the net and found what I needed in combinations that did not have the B-6 bonus. For a multi-vite I chose a pre-natal type, it's got the lowest B-6 levels in it and that allows some wiggle room. Since I've gotten all these sorted out, I'm doing a lot better.
That is my experience, I believe if you go to the 'search' part of the top blue bar and type in 'B-6' you could easily find prior posts on the issue here, and also on other parts of Neurotalk....you are not alone with this problem. - j
