Hi , I am new here and looking for some advice for my daughter. 3 weeks ago she awoke with her jaw angled to one side. Following a visit to A&E and then a Maxillofacial unit it was realigned but the joints were not restored to the correct position. She is unable to open her mouth.We have waited 3 weeks for an MRI to determine the problem and was due to see the consultant tomorrow but because of the snow the hospitals are cancelling out patient appointments. I am concerned that this long delay is causing further damage.
What should we do.

I am glad you found neuro talk.Hopefully somebody will have more information for you. I can only speak as a mother. If I were worried that the time factor was causing more damage, I would call the facial doctor you went to that did not restore her alignment. Especially if there is pain and it has been that long since she could open her mouth. I am sorry for the snow delays, not all medical personal take off for snow days. Was the appt. for you actually cancelled? Maybe the doctor could ease your mind by calling. I wish you all the best and I hope the problem can get fixed soon. ginnie

I have seen some real knowledgable postings regarding dental and facial problems. I wish I could direct you where to go for quick info and links.

Try your hand at the "SEARCH" feature above. It can yield some good starting points.

I hope she's not in too much pain. Sometimes there's no quick fixes. That's not toooo loooonngg right now. Just be patient and persistent. Unusual problems are much more stressful because of the unknown and what ifs. We do understand here. We have been through a lot of that. :grouphug:

You may want to keep a diary of what's going on, pain meds, pain level, phone calls and numbers, for later. It's important to manage your care and ask questions. Oh, yeah. Write down questions to ask a health care provider, because if you're like me, I'll forget or just don't think about all that stuff in such a small time slot. I've found doctors don't mind answering well posed questions. Cut the anxiety and stress talk out and they can deal with it better. Just my experience in the quest for medical attention.

you may want to consider taking pictures of her mouth in different positions, side views, and date that in your diary/journal.
