Flair Up or Relapse?

Hi All, I am new to the board. Long story short, Dx in 1990 with MG had Thymectomy that same year. it took several years for me to go into remission. I have been symptom and medication free for about 17 years. Until a week ago. how will I know if it is just a flair up or a full blown relapse? on Prednisone and Mestinon and it is helping a little. Kind of scared. is there anyone else out there with a simular story.

What's in a name...

If you are having MG symptoms after 17 years of remission, you need to see your neurologist. You can call it flair, relapse or what ever name you want.
It's needs to be properly evaluated and properly treated.

I am currently looking for a Neuro in my area. When I was DX with this I lived in So California, and had a Wonderful Neurologist but I was in complete remission so I didn't need one. I am hoping that this is just a fair up and the MG has not come back full blown. I am leary about just choosing any Neurologist because I have had bad experiences in the past.

I'm in Vegas as well. I was referred by my primary care doctor to Dr. Luis Diaz. His office is in the Summerlin Hospital Medical Offices on Town Center, just south of Summerlin Parkway. So far he's been very responsive and seems well-experienced with MG.

I've only gone to him once (I started having noticeable symptoms in early July and was just diagnosed with MG on August 29), but he's already aggressively treating it. I just got done my five day loading dose of IVIg this past Friday and a couple of the nurses said that they deal a lot with his office and find him to be one of the best in town, including one nurse who was seeing him for another neurological disorder.

Good luck! :)

Hi lisa;

My Neuro is Dr. David Ginsburg.

http://health.usnews.com/top-doctors...9108&distance=

I do not know reliable US News Health is but they rate him one of the best neurologists in Las Vegas.

The Dr. Cummings on their list is rated in the top 1% in the country. He is new to Las Vegas and works at the the Cleveland Clinic Nevada Lou Ruvo Ctr for Brain Health 888 W Bonneville Ave Las Vegas, NV 89106

He does not take MG patients. Lou Ruvo built the center and the Cleveland Clinic joined with him for treating and research of Alzheimer only.

Dr. Ginsburg has been treating me aggressively starting me on a five day loading dose of IVIg. He has been treating me since the beginning of 2009.
He is sending me to a doctor at USC for another opinion on treatment options.

Hi Adam, I just read your post today. I'll reply.

Question

I called Dr. Ginsburgs office and I was told that he is booked through December. they offered me an appointment with Dr. Farbman, do you know of him? the neuro that my GP referred me to is a Headache Specialist, go figure.

Thanks Lisa

I only know they work together and for a while they were not taking new patients because of financial troubles at UMC and I know Dr. Ginsburg lost his PA for that reason.

I trust Dr. Ginsburg and I wish could offer more info on Dr.Farbman. Sorry.
