Post Concussion and Neck adjustments

I have been going to my chiropractor for about 2 months now once a week. She does the classic neck adjustment on my and has started working on my C1 and C2. Everywhere i have been reading though is that you should only let NUUCA certified people do it. Is it bad to stay with the neck adjustments she does because they don't seem to bother me

Is she doing the twist and pop neck adjustments?

What is she doing to work on C-1 and C-2?

If its working for you then by all means...stick with your current chiropractor.

We suggest seeing a NUCCA specialist because traditional chiropractor work can be harsh for those with PCS...meaning it might aggravate symptoms. Some people are very sensitive to sudden head/neck movements.

If you don't see an increase in symptoms then you should be fine.

Yeah the twist and pop adjustments and she knows of my concussion situation

Twist and pop can be too aggressive for C-1 and C-2 issues. Every neck injury is different.

Does she have you ice your upper neck after a treatment?

It will be beneficial.

How does she determine where to adjust your spine?

I am super nervous about going to Chiro, but hope it will help...glad to know it helps some (most?) people!

After speaking with my new neurologist yesterday about chiropractic adjustments...I take back what I said. If I were you, I'd head over to the NUCCA website and find a specialist near you.

I didn't realize how detrimental they could be to people with head injuries.

What did the neuro say?

I think many MD's still have a bit of a bias when it comes to chiropractic.:(
I wish my md would have at least mentioned that chiropractic might be helpful for my RSI/TOS sx, esp since the MD's and PT's that I had been going to weren't all that knowledgeable about my symptoms and whole body wellness.

I always mention seeking out expert/advanced DC's & PT's- as rookies or less than expert can cause problems.

I have been told by two neuros, two primary docs, and my physical therapist to absolutely not go to a nucca chiropractor. I did clarify nucca vs. regular.

I have not been to a nucca yet, but always kept it in the back of my mind... i guess when i get really desperate:)

I understand that many people are helped by them and they are usually positively reccommended on this site, but I think it is important to note that the adjustments can cause strokes (very rare s/e of course).

I will try to find this study I remember seeing online when I was researching nucca. Basically they surveyed a group of patients that had a stroke and there was a significant number of them that had their neck recently adjusted.

Also, I will note that I have a neck injury, maybe that is why I was told to stay away, because of the severity.

My physical therapist has worked on my neck for months, maybe about four the first time and then one month presently. She was the most adamant against it.

I am so excited to hear of people improving after their adjustments though, I understand that to feel even the slightest bit better makes a world of difference.

I was nervous too. I have some degeneration and spurs in my neck vertebrae and I will not ever let a chiro crack my neck again. It's been years since my last neck adjustment. But nucca is a completely different approach. I can't swear by results yet because I just had my first treatment. But I do have a lot of respect for the logical side of this process. It's based on physics and geometry and anatomy. The point where the mild pressure is placed is behind your ear and I could not even feel the slight movement that it caused. I also feel confident with the xray proof.

Perhaps do a pros and cons list to help figure out if it is worth trying. And if you decide to do it, find someone you feel you can trust. Maybe someone you know can recommend a nucca dr to you. Another thing is maybe research where nucca adjustment pressure is is applied vs. Where the main arteries run. Are they as close as when a snap and twist adj is done on a lower part of neck?

My medical doc is very against the traditional chiro work of snapping the neck. She knows I see dr Tony for active release and she is ok with that. In fact I don't even use the term chiro with her. Don't get me wrong, I trust her, but I also trust my chiro.

My doc has no idea I have started nucca, I'll be letting her know after a couple more nucca visits.

Good luck to you
