Daylight Savings Time Starts March 11 -- three weeks earlier than last year.

Greetings,

Daylight Savings Time Starts March 11 -- three weeks earlier than last year.
I like daylight savings time. The sun should still be out at 9:00 pm http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/ch...racter0143.gif

Time for Daylight Savings Patches:
Earlier start to Daylight Savings Time could affect school computer applications

By Justin Appel

February 12, 2007—Schools, businesses, and other organizations aren't properly prepared for the new start of Daylight Savings Time, says a new report from technology research firm Gartner Inc.

This year, clocks in the United States will be turned ahead one hour on March 11--about three weeks earlier than in previous years. And though the change isn't likely to cause any significant disruption--and the urgency of the situation isn't nearly as profound as the Y2K "crisis" more than seven years ago--it's still something that school IT personnel should be aware of, Gartner says.

The change in Daylight Savings Time is part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The measure, intended to combat rising energy costs and consumption, was signed into law in August 2005.
........ Instead of ending on the last Sunday in October, Daylight Savings Time is now scheduled to end on the first Sunday in November.
.....

The report stresses that most time-related problems can be fixed simply by downloading the appropriate patch for your operating system. This is because most applications take their time from the computer's internal clock, which is determined by the operating system.

"Mac OS X has already been updated to handle the changes to Daylight Savings Time," said Apple spokesman Todd Wilder.
"This update was delivered to our customers seamlessly using our software update mechanism." Microsoft also has updates available for its Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows 2000 operating systems. Windows Vista shipped with the update already included.

Without installing the correct patches, Gartner says, potential problems can include:

"Calendaring applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, working improperly;

"Bank transaction errors;

"Missed deadlines for admissions and time-sensitive enrollment programs;

"Phone companies incorrectly charging peak rates during non-peak hours; and

"Security programs improperly denying access to IT resources.

When Does Daylight Time Begin and End?

With the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the starting and ending dates have once again been shifted. Beginning in 2007, daylight time will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November.

Hi,
The time change on Saturday night is supposed to effect some of our equipment -- like computer clocks,....

If you have a very new computer, you can download a patch. Otherwise, I guess you change the clock yourself.
lol

I don't like skipping an hour of "sleep" and having the time all messed up. I already stay up too late. When we change the clocks I will be staying up waaaay too late.

Why would daylight-saving time mess up my computer?
by Julia Layton

Computer users and IT administrators in the United States and Canada are bracing for a mess. Some say it's a mini Y2K bug that's going to throw networked applications into a tizzy and make "Lost" fans cry when they realize their DVR missed the show. ........

Others say it's a simple fix for networks as long as companies are prepared, and there's nothing to panic about. Much like the Y2K bug that was supposed to crash the world, this bug also has to do with time.

Still, most new software is covered. Patches for older equipment will be harder to come by.

If your PC runs an operating system that's pre-Service Pack 2 (pretty much everything older than XP), your service agreement has run out. You can still get a patch, but you'll have to pay for it.

Older Windows-based servers and mobile devices are in the same boat, and Mac patches only go back to Mac OS X Panther.

If you have a VCR with a clock that updates itself automatically for daylight-saving time, you should probably just plan on viewing the wrong time for a while.

We don't change our clocks in this state, which I really like.

I am glad that they are making the change earlier for you all.

I used to hate when I lived back East when they changed the clock in the fall, and loved it when they changed it back in the Spring.

Happy Spring, Nikko:)
