Alternative Medicine/Therapy

Is anyone here familiar or pracitices alternative therapy? I'm interested in trying all natural medicine and diet changes. I've seen stuff online about baking soda and molasses for illnesses and things like Rife Therapy. I don't know much about these things or if there is anything out there to naturally help with MG.

I would love to know too...but, I am not hopefuly. The nurse at my dr's office said they did have one patient that had really researched it and tried a bunch of different things...none worked.... But, then again...we are all different. I have found nothing in food or environment that help me... Oh wait, swimming in the Caribbean when we were on vacation...but, can't do that every day:(

Hello,

I have been using and am very familiar with biomedical (alternative) treatment methods for about 15 years. In addition to me having MG, my daughter also has some neurological issues, and so I've researched many thousands of hours at this point (as well as spent LOTS of money.)

A quick list of things I've tried: acupuncture, cranial sacral therapy, vitamin/mineral/herbal therapy--manganese, vit c, essential fatty acids, huperzine A, probiotics, gluten free, casein free, additive free diet, vegetarianism (which I still do for personal reasons), anti-oxidant therapy. I've probably left out several more...been at this a long time.

Short answer--nothing worked for me. In general I am probably in better overall health, but the MG never showed more than temporary improvements, and those improvements were likely just part of the ebb and flow of the disease.

My daughter, OTOH, has made steady improvements, but we've addressed some obvious allergy issues and done some other disease-specific things. Some feel that MG can be helped by addressing allergies using Low Dose Allergen therapy, but I don't have the extra $$$ to throw at that for me right now. It is helping my dd quite a bit with allergies, but not with the other issues--yet.

I've reached the point where I try very hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle to help compensate for the damage the heavy hitting drugs are doing to my body. My other choice would be to succumb to MG...not an option right now.

Sorry there isn't something out there that seems to work for most people, but there just doesn't seem to be. Never stop looking for answers and please report back if you find something that DOES work. :)

I wish there was an alternative therapy that worked. My boss keeps telling me how that Dr Furman "cured" his sister thyroid problems and he checked and DR Furman has cured MG too!

How annoying! I can barely walk to the bathroom, take 25 pills a day to function, sleep 12-16 hr and still exhausted, blood work all over the place and a change in diet, probably things I cannot chew or swallow is going to fix me. Everytime he mentions it, I cringe and can barely contain myself.

I have really reached my limit.

Well I have tapered off of the steroids. No change except for less dizziness to be honest but I am pretty irritable. Today will be my first day steroid free. I'm going to try an herbal detox and will be trying Rife Therapy for the first time. I'll be happy to let you guys know how it works out but it will probably take several weeks for results. I'm at my wits end as well.

Hi all
I have also just tapered off prednisone(1 week off) Things seem to be going well even in the heat. I am not symptom free but have been able to reduce my mestinon to 30 Mg 4 times a day. I am doing acupuncture, Chinese herbs and homeopathics. They seem to keep me stable so far. I will keep you posted with progress. Happy 4th!

Hello Strizzlow, :) Congratulations on being steroid-free. I haven't taken them for years, but I do remember I felt a great deal better, away from them.

Alternative medicine is very much, a personal choice. If we "believe" it will work for us, it often will, and there's nothing wrong with that. Western medicine relies on the mind/body connection as well. It's science.

Taking interest in our diet is very beneficial--there is always room for improvement.

Watch for the practitioner who tells you they can "cure" you.
The FDA and Health Canada state that it is illegal to use the word "cure" if
there isn't one. As well, if a practitioner tells you to go off any medication, RUN...!
