Migraine meds, botox, muscle spasms
 

I have a headache everyday. I thought it was sinus/allergy headache. Sometimes it decreases with caffeine, sometimes nothing stops it. Tylenol, ibuprofen don't work. Went to ENT, he said yes they might be allergy triggered, but they are neurological in nature:migraines....
Went to my neuro and was recommended nortriptyline which would be "helpful" for my nerve pain and my migraines or depakote which would be helpful for my migraines. Then the last step would be botox injections.
I will probably do none of it for now, but if my life keeps going this way, I am going to be crazy to suffer like this when I could have less pain.

I am wondering what advice good or bad that you all have.
I am also curious about the botox and wondering if it would help my horrible neck muscle spasms that go into my traps, scalenes, and into my shoulders.

When I was in my mid 30's and living in Southern California, I had terrific migraines, especially when the Santa Ana winds blew. My internist also taught at UCLA and he said they were experimenting with B12 shots for migraine sufferers and so I began getting a shot every month. I responded very well, and never had the ocular symptoms that accompanied the migraine as long as I got that shot.

This was before we had methocobalamin but the B-12 shots really did help me. My doctor said they did not help very many people at UCLA, however, my headaches were few and far between and no more visual disturbances.

Now I'm retired, no longer have migraines, but do have PN since 1999 -- and now I take the methocobalamin daily for that! I think there's a connection but am not sure what it is.

I have a girlfriend who gets Botox injections
 

for migraines and she says it works. I know her insurance covers it. I don't know about using it for muscle spasms.

Hi all, I can't speak on botox, never had it. I don't get headaches, thank you grape seed ex.

I know acupuncture and acupressure helps with all headaches and I just did some acupressure on my sinus points and it feels good and gives relief. I believe the climate change issue is causing a lot more problems for people. I have not had mucus issues in years but have this last year. Still no need for drugs.

I know topamax is used for migraines as well as neuropathy, far down the treatment path. That's how I found it. I take 50 mg twice a day. It has taken the shooting pains in the calf down 80-90 percent if I don't over do it. Over doing it is easy.

It made resting and often sleeping possible. That is why its massive side effect of a metallic taste, which morphed into a reduced sense of taste is worth it. I think many people would bristle at this quid pro quo, however I was getting by on such fractured sleep that occassional full hours of sleep in a row are worth dull tasting food.

I keep my eye out for other options as far as medication and yes I still have bad days related to that symptom, but it is fractional. I do refuse to titrate up, which is a goal I think, but I have zero interest in that.

I hope you find something to take the edge off your symptoms but I would like to point out the laundry list of potential side effects for topamax. Also, I'd imagine (though do not know) that headache doses wpuld trend higher.
