Firefox 3.5 and bookmarks...

There is no warning about this, but this upgrade will fry your
bookmarks. We didn't know this, and our laptop is a mess.

They are set up differently, and I haven't had a chance to relearn and understand them.

I won't do this unit, until we get back from vacation, and we study the laptop in detail. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper today!

Well we worked on the laptop after dinner, and low and behold,
the task bar with quick links RETURNED and the bookmarks came back!

So hubby went on a Firefox forum, where the posters say that they sent out a bug fix-- some automated thing that we don't really see on this end. So the fix came in by itself and "fixed" things! I don't understand this myself.

The laptop automatically updates Firefox, but this one you have to "order" it to. So we did not update this computer yet.

I'd still save your bookmarks, just in case, before downloading the newest Firefox!

Just this week I happened to check the FF site and got the newest version FF 3.5.
It didn't give me any troubles though. hooray!

I finally fixed the importing password problem, and my organize bookmarks that wasn't showing anything even though the actual bookmarks are still there.

Here's the thread on that -

There was an update in June... that did kill some of our bookmarks.

This problem is separate from that one. This one came with the big upgrade.

It apparently was reported quickly and a fix was sent out online because within 24 hrs, our laptop fixed ITSELF!

My husband likes the new upgrade in general, but I lost my moderator panel link. I still have it on this computer tho.
I use the laptop upstairs if I go online during the night. I don't like to navigate stairs at those times with my left leg issues. Too risky for a fall. Now that the weather is nice, we bring the laptop to our enclosed porch so we can use it out there, too.
But I still prefer the standard desktop I always use. It has all my files on it etc.

So I guess there is more than one problem with bookmarks! :thud:

Firefox 3.5

I downloaded this a few days ago, and it has crashed twice since then. It recovers quickly though.
One anomally that I've noticed is that the Google Spell check has gone silly.
While it picks up a mis-spelt word, it highlights the next one so you cannot correct it automatically. You have to exit spell check and do a manual edit.

ah I've noticed the spell check thing too.
I thought my mouse was slipping and pointing to the wrong word choice.

It only happens once in awhile for me , but I know i pointed the cursor to the right word at the time and a different one would come up.

There's another update 3.5.1 out now.
Should fix the slow start up and other password & bookmark issues.

seems to be working better on my machine.:D

Thanks, Jo. We won't change anything right now.

But we did use the new toolbar on the laptop and I emailed myself the link I lost...so both are on the laptop now in the
new toolbar as "most visited links".. I even saved my new password just in case (I normally don't save them, but for traveling I thought it was best).

Barring some unforeseen thing, I should be able to log on a few times when we go to town, etc. I hope the wifi is still there for free like before...you never know about things like that!
The library had a new wifi, that they turned on only when the library was open...not for weekends. But it is some "secure" thing the library uses and will not work with Mozilla at all..only IE. Year before last, the wifi was down almost all the time--for some upgrade to the phone services -- and we couldn't get online hardly at all.

This year we may take some DVDs...to play on the computer.
If it this cold weather continues...we'll need some diversion!
Today was the coldest recorded day up there for this date in July!

Once the 3G thing improves, we may get it for the laptop, but we'll have to see about that eventually. My hubby just got 3G for his business computer. Too bad we can't use it recreationally. It wasn't 3G up there yet last summer. My son's iPhone was very slow, for example. It just went digital for cell phone service up there from mixed analog/digital. My cell battery life is much longer now.

I have such a hard time with all this techno stuff. I sure appreciate your posts!

I downloaded this as well as the latest Google toolbar, and the spell check is now working properly-except here!
It is still unable to highlight a misspelt word and correct it.
For instance, it did this :misspelt word.
Freaky.
