Sharing some good news

I have always had to take something to sleep due to my pain. I wanted so badly to not have to take it. They varied from Ambien to OTC unisom.

A few weeks ago I was determined to find some non-pharmacuetical relief. I decided to try guided meditation for sleep. IT WORKS!!!!! I think possibly the voices help me not to focus on the pain. Also keeps my mind from wondering on a 100 different subjects.

Needless to say I am very happy about this. Just thought I would share incase anyone else may be interested.

Hopeful:D

People always look at me as though I've got five heads when I tell them that my working with a therapist on Mindfulness meditation for chronic pain has helped me tremendously. I'm sure guided is just as effective. Thanks for sharing this and validating my own experiences in the process. Are you using a CD and if yes, which one?

I think there is great untapped healing power in the mind that I hope mainstream medicine will better explore. Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Martin Rossman have a pretty good guided imagery CD set called "Self-Healing with Guided Imagery." You may be able to check it out from your library. I can't say it has helped me to heal but it is relaxing and fun to listen to.

I am not at home right now but I will post the names. I actually downloaded them to my IPOD and listen to them that way. Hopeful

The meditation I was first exposed to is by Jon Kabat-Zinn. A woman on another forum referred me to his work which is available through most librarys. I won't say that this practice has healed me because it hasn't and it isn't meant to. It is a coping strategy and it has changed the way that I experience pain. That is where I find the great benefit in working at this practice. I wish the mind could heal damaged nerves so that none of us would be here.

Hi, I am sorry I am just getting back to you with the names. A very bad few days. The one is by Kelly Howell. Called meditation for healing. The other is Dr. Siddarharth Shah. Deep sleep journey-music for deep sleep. I don't like his voice as much but it is still good if you can get past it. Hopeful:)

Wouldn't that be wonderful if we could all heal our damaged nerves withhout the help of doctors. I am going to check out the work you mentioned. Thanks:)

Great, there is a book and a CD. The CD talks you through mindfulness. It has a couple of meditation exercises on it, I believe. I found it hard to follow the book for long periods of time, but thats just me. Good luck with it. It does take practice though, to get really good at it.
