Fish oil in fridge?
 

I noticed my fish oil vitamins are sticking together in the heat, and I try not to turn on the air unless I have reached boiling point (doesn't take much usually), so I was wondering if it is okay to put them in the fridge, or is it even necessary? All I can find on the bottle is to keep them in a dry spot.

Hi, Christina. My fish oil specifically says it SHOULD be put in the fridge -- I was actually under the impression that it always should be but maybe that's not the case...

I have prescription fish oil and it does not say it has to be refigerated but I do anyway.

Some people say if you put in frig it helps prevent the fishy burps.

So it perfectly safe.

Mine just says avoid excessive heat :rolleyes:, and keep dry. I never had a problem with fishy burps but I take so many vitamins and meds at one time.......I also have not been at the receiving end of my burps :eek:. I use a pill minder for my meds because I have so many. I also have Vitamin D which is softgel too. Maybe I should see if that says to store in fridge duh lol. Those aren't sticking though and they are pretty small.

I keep all my oils in the frig...
 

Gelatin caps will soften with humidity and heat.

But more importantly the oils oxidize in higher temps and
this creates free radicals that are unhealthy.

So I recommend all oils for the frig. We take out a week's worth for the counter (except during heat waves--we don't have central air).

Well that's not good, it says your stressed yet you are on vacation. The two aren't supposed to mix. Been there though.

and it is humid and wet today (we delayed until Monday because of the rain forecast up there).

Besides my husband wanted to pack on the weekend, and not on a weekday.

Things are VERY expensive up there and also some things we
use are not even available! So I always take 4 totes of food. I won't even get into the drinking water issue!!
Living in a place for weeks requires alot of planning...moving back and forth etc. (there is no electricity there either).

We live on a high hill, and have to shlep everthing down to the cars. Once we get there the stress will be less.

I also take the prescription fish oil but don't put it in the fridge. There is really no need to since I store it in a cool place anyway. And since I haven't had any fishy burps at all I haven't been concerned about it. And it's fine; not rancid, not sticking together or anything like that. :)

OH I sure wouldn't wanna be haulin' in this weather. I finally broke down and turned on the air. The humidity just makes me miserable. At least the weather for the week looks promising.

Kathi, in this weather there really isn't a cool spot in my house unless I turn on the A/C. So I am better off putting them in the fridge I guess. The bottle I buy has 280 big soft gels, I take 2 every morning so you can see they still last me a while. Mine are over the counter. All I have to do is give the bottle a rattle and they separate but I was kind of concerned.

I understand. I could probably put my own in the fridge...I just haven't. And I agree the humidity can be very bad; always makes me feel worse. But, yes, it is supposed to be better in the next couple of days or so. :)
