And now... Kidney Stones!

I am going to the doctor this afternoon for Ultrasounds and X-Rays to determine if I have Kidney stones. I have had pain in my side and abdomen for about a month now. At first I thought it was just "feminine" issues, but it didn't go away. Then I started to get nauseous.

I spent yesterday in bed, and called the advice nurse.

It seems that Kidney Stones are a side effect of Topamax. I knew that... I've been taking it for three years now... and was under the "It won't happen to me" dilusion. Well, now it is happening to me.

I'll let you know how it all turns out. (Oh yea, I still don't have insurance yet!)

Seams so glad your going for the tests, when kidney stones want to
hit you your going to know it,OUCH they can knock you flat out on the floor.
Seems like we all seem to get better and something else hits..Get better I
just got out of the hospital with them ,there no fun..:eek: Hugs to
all Sue. P.S. and alot of us can't eat things that are bad for us..:(:(:(
Oh I think that's good for us????

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Can I ask though, where the pain was in your side/abdomin? like was it high or low or twards the front or back? I keep getting a pain in my side/abdomin too, but I was told it was nothing serious (after being worked up for apendicitis and then Gall bladder problems). I am taking Topamax, so I was wondering if it could be doing something.

I took Topamax for a while and aside from making me
'dummer than a bukket of hammers'.... it did say that
drinking lots of water was necessary, to flush the kidneys
or stones could occur.
Sorry that you're not feeling well, and hope they find out
its something a lot less severe than 'stones'.

Well, it's not Stones

I went in and found it's not Kidney Stones... but of course, they don't know what it is.

Sue, the pain is in my waist area, on the left side, front and back. He mentioned "Diverticulitus" also. But I think because I am not an "insured" patient, they didn't want to do too many tests on me. Interesting how that works!

The pain is a little better today.. but still a dull "ache".

I've been real afraid to eat too many things. I've been staying with simple things like a Bagel, Chicken Noodle soup, and rice.

Well your right about the insurance, that's so sad, because how can one
work if you are sick. how are you going to work..My mother had diver.
and they put her on the same diet your on,if you run a fever just baby food.
If you feel worse go to ER,no body should be in pain when they already
are,it's always good to drink lots of water.

How's your Grandaughter and daughters? We have our second coming in
Feb, a little girl this time..You rest and take care honey. Hugs to all Sue

Stay away from rice, trail mix, nuts, jerky, hard salami, .....hard foods, etc.
"Diverticulitus" is when small bits of hard foods nestle in small wrinkles in the stomach lining & digestive tract. They do not get digested and form a hard type 'pocket' of mass. This hurts. 'Google' it, and treatment for it.
It is not permanant and can be treated.

Stiches - Are you on an antiabotic? You should be if it is diverticulitis. Don't mess with this, if it's diver. it will only get worse. My sister didn't take her dx seriously and spent 10 days in the hospital trying to get it cleared up. It was very painful. I don't want to scare you but have this further looked at.
