Painful foot cramp

I was diagnosed in 2001 and PD first affected the right side of my body and now it started to spread to the left side. And I recently began to experience painful left foot cramp after I walked for a short distance. But strangely enough I did not have such pain on my right foot. My neurologist said it is a kind of "task specific dystonia" as my symptom alleviated after medication. Do anyone of you have such experience? I used to walk a lot without taking medication and I wonder if there is any other therapy (other than taking medication) that could help. Appreciate your advices.

Me, too

Ling,

I experience something similar -- I get terrible foot pains during my OFFs. I had originally though they were cramps, but no muscles were actually cramping. (strange but true) I later figured out I have Neuropathic Pain - burning-shooting-excruciating pain in the nerve endings of my foot. I can tell when I need to increase my pd meds - the pain increases in frequency. I try to take as low doses as possible, but when I can't stand the pain any more, I know it's time to add some. :Sigh:

good luck

Empathy...doh

Yep....me too. PD in right side but my left foot does its best to curl up and touch my knee.As we speak I am dealing with terrific pain ..worse at night but now creeping in during daytime.:(
My fingers too,are very stiff and painful as I type...in fact I am typing almost flat fingered and my left hand is curling quite badly.
SOLUTIONS;
Not a fat lot of use to you as I am not on meds for this dystonia yet...but won`t be long as it is soooooooooooo painful.
Meanwhile...when my husband is home,it only takes a couple of minutes of warm hands and a foot rub to ease it. Have you tried one of those little roller type foot massages or a foot spa. The latter takes a bit more effort to prepare so is perhaps best kept for a pre bedtime wind me down. The roller can be easily dropped to the floor and BINGO!!! I have found the condition responds to gentle manipulation. As with ordinary cramp...if it should strike mid shopping mall when neither of the above are at hand...find a cool floor...off with the shoes and press down toes first, heel off the floor for a few seconds. You might look like you are practising for Swan lake but what the heck...beats the Ministry of Funny Walks any day...:D

Good luck.x

foot/leg cramps

if you can make sense of this lengthy article, it will help explain the cramping/dystonia or whatever you want to call it.

the way i see it, l-dopa overrides/stimulates the weakened muscles in the leg/hip and until it wears off, i can function somewhat normally. then when it's spent, things (bones, muscles) twist, painfully, back to their dysfunctional, painful positions.....until the next boost .....

does anybody else get this?

yep

Yep, I do in my right foot. I pull my toes (top of foot toward me (upward) and that helps it subside. Good suggestions, Steffi. I like the foot massage.
Good luck, Ling.
:)

All, I love them - my husband will massage my foot and it feels so good.
