I am a 24 year old band teacher diagnosed with TOS back in February. My symptoms began as right wrist pain about 4 years ago and since then have spread to many more. I have been to several docs and am in my 2nd round of PT right now. I am scheduled for surgery in less than 2 weeks now with Dr. Sanders. He's currently planning on doing a bilateral pec minor release. Recently after stretching my pec muscles I get this burning sensation around my collarbone....like a sunburn feeling. Is that common with TOS/pec minor syndrome or do I need to begin investigating RSD?

Hi,

I get pain in and around my collar bone on my affected side (right). Not really a burning sensation though, more of an aching pain and sometimes a fast pulsing feeling. My collar bone is not symmetrical compared to the other side and is has gotten bony over the 4 years that i have had TOS symptoms!.

Think there are some others on here who have RSD so hopefully they'll pick up your thread soon and can advise you.

Hi Suzi,

I have been diagnosed with TOS, RSD and fibromyalgia. First was the TOS but then got RSD because of the rib resection surgery done 8/05.

First I would ask you to research RSD a little bit and see if the symptoms listed sound like you. Does the burning only happen after you stretch that muscle?

The burning sensation is like your skin is on fire. Mine is sometimes like a sunburn, but much worse. I also have horrible allodynia on my arm along with discoloration. Allodynia is horrible sensitivity. Examples are: the ceiling fan hurts because of the wind, the wagging of a dogs tail hurts, a hair from a cat/dog that touches my arm hurts, temperature differences, etc. Allodynia is extreme sensitivity. Some people have more allodynia than others. I cannot wear a short-sleeved shirt without a lidocaine patch on my arm.

I would take a few minutes and read about RSD. Hopefully, you don't have this. There is no cure and his horribly painful.

I have had similar sensations in neck and collarbone area. Good luck with Doc Sanders, an unusually nice person who took the time to call me personally on a sunday to discuss my tos after I made a routine call inquiring about a tos specialist in my area.could have knocked me over with a feather.

Good luck with the surgery and heres hoping for some relief post op.

With regards to the collarbone and burning. I get pain in both my collarbone regions. Hideous ache and hot. Cannot really describe as sunburn but fell like on fire. Something actually very difficult to express. Not pleasant in the least.

The problem is knowing how to express what you feel? This is very difficult sometimes as words may mean something different.

Completely understand the allodynia - I cannot bear anyone leaning against me - it is a pain/sensation I cannot describe but is painful in a word I cannot find. Like nails down a chalkboard or some cellophane wrap when scrunched makes a sound that is unbearable.

Once again goodluck.
