Burning sensation all over the body
This is for my mother who does not peak or write English. She is based in Africa, and her health is not looking good at all. She had a stroke last year November, which affected her speech slightly, and in May this year, she had another stroke which affected her right arm and right leg. Right now she unable to speak a word. On top of these, she has extreme burning sensation all over her body constantly, and she does not sleep at night. I am planning to visit her, and would appreciate any advice.

This sounds like it might be--
--Central Pain syndrome, or post-stroke syndrome, which can occur when sensory nerve tracts in the spinothalamic region of the brain are damaged.
Stroke is not the only cause of this, but it seems to be the most common (people who have multiple sclerosis legions in the thalamus, or have had degeneration there as a result of B12 deficiency of a number of other brain conditions have reported it as well). See www.centralpain.com www.centralpain.org |
Try looking up RSD refkex sympathetic dystrophy. I hvae it and the burning is horrible RSD is rated 26% higher pain then cancer. I know she had the stroke but people with RSD have also lost their ability to speak due to the nerve to the vocal cord shutting down

Hello Nene
Welcome to Neuro Talk. I am sorry your mom is hurting. Investigate the posts above. Good advice. RSD I think may be more difficult to DX. I would think if the stroke caused the part of the brain mentioned to be damaged, that it would show up on her MRI. Bring up RSD and the stroke to her doctor, and see if you can't get her some better pain control, and something to help her to sleep as well. Unrelenting pain is a horrible path to be on. I hope your visit can be productive to help her. I will keep your mom in my prayers. ginnie:hug:

Hi there, although I don't know much about strokes, has your mom gone for an EMG/EEG to check her nerves throughout her body? Test the severity of the weakness in her limbs. And a brain or spinal MRI? To see if there's any abnormalities.
When you mentioned burning all over the body, nerve pain came to mind right away. Not sure if that helps at all, but maybe something to think about. |
