What does this mean? Ganglioside?
GANGLIOSIDE(asialo-GM1)IGG/IGM came up positive for me. I get my blood tests through emails. The doctor hasn't called me yet. I am scared and wondering what this means for my future. Anyone know?

I think it points to having an autoimmune cause to your neuropathy (antibodies specifically for peripheral nerves).
I wasn't tested for these, because my nerve conduction test and EMG were normal. It may open up treatment options for you, such as IVIG. |
I was also normal for the emg, but because of my symptoms he checked me for this. I am terrified because I think this is the antibody that commonly shows up for ALS.
I think we go to the same doc. I pm'd you. |
This PDF explains:

Yeah but ALS I hear is often a lack of sensation and feeling-as in there isn't really much physical pain involved. This antibody is common in several diagnoses, and ALS is exceedingly rare as a disease.
Was your nerve conduction test normal? |

ganglioside
Guillain Barre is linked to ganglioside, but, in general, it is linked to autoimmune issues as well as a host of viral and bacterial diseases. Maybe he should re-run it and follow up on it to see if it is still a factor. It's amazing how little docs follow up on sometimes. I get sick of paying them when I do the work. :/

I have a question about this....IgM
Hi there- I am going to a neuro on Monday to get tested for things that might run with a polyclonal IgM and nerve symptoms. i had a bout in 1999, it last six months, went away for 15 yrs and resurfaced in 2013.
a) can the antibodies react like that in a relapse and remit fashion; b) could they cause the polyclonal Igm themselves OR is there always something else that we don't know about (i.e, a cancer, infection, autoimmune). c) Also, can this antibody cause CNS issues as well - by that I mean mainly anxiety, racing feelings. Sometimes I think I have some of the paraneoplastic ones b/c those seem to run more with the psychosis, dementia, which is honestly what I feel like CRAZY amounts of anxiety. I ask b/c Ive been chasing down the source of this igM for 15 years and have gotten ZILCH. |
