I really really hate antibiotics!!! Augh!!

(warning, this post has a kvetch or two about a girl problem that is sometimes triggered by antibiotics. I just want to vent about it)

I went to the dentist last week. Got a few old nasty (amalgam) fillings removed and replaced with pretty, white composite fillings.

My dentist gave me a Rx of Keflex (antibiotic) to take, just in case anything nasty escaped from inside the 3 teeth getting fixed. (this happened to me last time, and I'm just now recovering from the ON that it triggered, I did not want a repeat of my previous experience)

So, after a slow start to faithfully taking the antibiotics (1 pill q.i.d. for 7 days...q.i.d. is 4 times a day) I've been taking them since thursday.

Apparently, my body does not like the Keflex much, and the Keflex must be really good at killing all the bacteria in my body, because I think it killed my GOOD bacteria along with the bad stuff too. (and here comes the yeastie beasties) I am not happy about the massacre of the good bacteria.

and, for some reason, the Keflex is making my stomach hurt...which is a new thing to me. It's never caused me that problem before. (the pharmacist was surprised too, since he said the dosage that I'm taking is one of the more mild dosages)

I wasnt surprised by the yeastie beasties...I just HATE it when the antibiotics do that. Add that discomfort to the stomach ache, and I'm just not happy.

Hopefully I can get thru the next couple of days without "accidentally forgetting" to take the rest of the antibiotics. I can tell the antibiotics are doing what they're supposed to be doing. I felt like I had/have a little infection going on in or near one of the teeth that got worked on, and that started to improve today, so I know I need to make sure I get all of the antibiotics. I just wish they didnt make me feel all icky and stomach-achey.

I'm waiting several months before I get the rest of my amalgam fillings removed...if my teeth will let me. (amalgam is cracking my teeth...hopefully the teeth will hold on a little longer!)

I'm hoping that I did the right thing, asking for the antibiotics to hold back any infections. Hopefully the next 2 days will move quickly!

I'm not sure what my 1 filling (yes, I've thankfully only had 1) consists of (it's a metal colored filling), but like a car, you have to think your bod needs a tune up every once in a while, so I think you're doing the right thing changing out those old fillings.

With that said, yeasties ugh. Yes, nasty side effect of antibiotics. Eat lots of yogurt to get that good bacteria into you!

I'm about to go suck down a yogurt (cherry flavored! yum!) and I'm going to go buy some Culturelle (lactobacillis pills)

I called the dentist this morning (she wasnt there, of course) but things were just maddening for me. They told me to stop taking the antibiotics for now, and that the dentist would call me back.

I think the stomach ache it's giving me is the most uncomfortable part of it. Yuck... I never had this problem with this particular antibiotic before tho.. Last time I had to take it, I had no problems with it, other than the fact that it was too low a dosage, and my regular doctor ended up giving me a stronger Rx because I did develop an infection and it was not just in my mouth, it got into the glands into my neck. But, even then, the stronger dose didnt make me sick like this.

all antibiotics kill off good bacteria unfortunately, thus those dreaded yeast infections, this also drives my wife nuts every time, doesn't matter what type, its the fact its an antibiotic, sorry for the discomfort Erin:hug: matter of fact last stay in hospital they had me on so much antibiotics they were also giving me good bacteria separately, i don't recall what could of happened to me if they didn't give me good bacteria but i seem to recall it wasn't a pretty picture

Gotta love the good bacterias. As soon as I can get up the nerve to venture out into the flaming Heck that is known as Nebraska summer, I'm going to stock up on a box of good bacteria pills. (Culturelle) and pick up the Diflucan prescription.

oh yeah... Wish she'd called earlier. I'd taken an antibiotic around 9am. (didnt call the dentist about a half hour after that)

After I talked to her and she said it was ok to stop. I started to feel really sick. Didnt get sick, but geeze, I felt bad for about 20 minutes.

Now I'm starving to death. Might go slurp up another yogurt. I'm just transfixed to watching Fox News right now. There was an earthquake in Los Angeles (5.8 or a 6.0, depending on what news channel you're watching)

My boyfriend's mom lives near L.A., so I'm watching to see if anything happened in her area.

1) hope they are safe and well in LA

2) Antibiotics + Yeasties = proof God is a man
