Tanning Bed and Vit D
I just read you can get vit D from a Tanning bed? Is that true? I have never gone tanning because of my scottch/Irish skin but maybe this would be a good reason.

i can't answer your Q. however, using a tanning bed is very risky and can cause skin cancers. on the other hand using vit D is relatively non-risky.
i say relatively because if you take too much you can get toxicity problems. vit D is a fat soluble vit. meaning it tends to stick around in the body. water soluble vits get flushed thru the body by the kidneys. it's best to check with your dr, about both. |
Good advice. I have never used a tanning bed. I have always thought it would be nice to have a bit of a tan. But my vanity keeps me from taking the risk of early wrinkles! :D
I like hearing I do not look old enough to have a 25 year old daughter and be a grandmother! HA;) LA Quote:

I saw on TV here last week where our Gvt is trying to bann tanning beds because of the high risk of melanoma and other skin cancers. Tanning beds have a concentration of UV something like 3 times what you would get in the sun at the hottest part of the day, in the middle of summer.
Sufficient daily Vit D can be obtained from incidentary sun exposure.... for just 10 minutes per day. That could be from hanging out the washing, going to the store, emptying the mail box....etc. |
